Hi

You query did not give any clues abt the PC/Motherboard and its BIOS revision.

That said if the PC/BIOS will not "see" the HDD then its is unlikely a cause of a virus.

Some old motherboards can't recognise a HDD if its size is more than 137GB. Some older motherboard also require than you set the HDD jumper correctly (Master or Slave).

At this stage, i am assuming the HDD in question is PATA or IDE (Old Spec). If the HDD is SATA (New Spec), then you will need a SATA port to connect the HDD. Ensure not to use both "old" molex power connector and "newer" SATA power connector together.

If the HDD is SATAII but the SATA spec for your motherboard is SATAI (initial spec), some motherboards and SATAII drives require that you jumper the HDD to allow it to work at the lower SATA speed.

If none of the above points apply try upgrading your system BIOS of the latest version. Also review the mortarboard's manual for more info.

Regards
Mike

SOURCE: Update BIOS E1505/6400 fails

The link below will take you to Dell's support download site for the e1505 BIOS download.

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R158849&SystemID=INSPIRONI6400/E1505&servicetag=&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=10430&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=9&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=1&fileid=212350

It is version A17. Download the file to your desktop and then double click on it to run it. A window will ask if you wish to upgrade the BIOS. Click yes. The system will shutdown, the BIOS will be flashed and Windows will restart.

The error that you mention above indicates that the file did not download properly for you before.

Good luck, and please let me know how this works out for you.

SOURCE: acer aspire one model zg5 battery won't charge

I have exactly the same problem and am searching at the same time as you. I think you are wrong. I think the 150 is for the larger screen model. I think we need the 110.

I think it's this one that i found at acer-euro

ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/netbook/aspire_one_110/bios/v.3309.zip

but I'm afraid to use it (which is not to say I know how). Somthing about putting it onto a USB drive and running scripts. At least that's what they do with this problem on a 150

Changed boot type from legacy to UEFI. Nowi cant even access bios and machine stops at acer screen. really need to enter back in bios and change back the boot type to legacy bios. Please need ur help

Changing the boot type will have no effect on whether or not you can still enter the bios.
The easiest way I find is to remove the hdd and RAM. Start up the laptop and it will do odd things. Power it off, replace the RAM with no hdd and go to the bios settings. Once there, reinstall the hdd and go to bios settings, reset back to legacy. Some systems will not support UEFI but if they do, a hdd without a system on a separate partition, will no longer work.

How do I go to BIOS?

You can enter BIOS setup or UEFI firmware via traditional method: Boot the PC, while the firmware starts to run, press F2/F1(Fn+F1 or Fn+F2). However, computer boots fast, maybe you often miss the trick to press F2/F1(Fn+F1 or Fn+F2). You can enter UEFI firmware from windows 8 or 8.1.

I need to replace the harddrive in a Acer Travelmate P453 laptop. The unit has InsydeH20 bios, and it will not recognize a new drive when installed internally. Acer support says can use only OE part

Hi
This is quite complicated. Firstly InsydeH2O is a UEFI system rather than the well known BIOS. The details can be found here:
UEFI BIOS for Mobile Desktop Embedded and Server Platforms InsydeH2O
and a fuller explanation can be found here:
Unified Extensible Firmware Interface
In particular, you may find that your original disk had a GPT or EFI partition which you may or may not have removed, as they don't show up in the usual way, and they are sometimes necessary for a disk to be bootable with a UEFI BIOS, but of course the disks you have tried won't have one. I would think that a detailed review of the Wikipedia page above might clarify things. With this sort of system I have had some degree of success (not always) with Maxblast 5 for Windows, which you could get from the Maxtor site (haven't tried recently). I put both disks, new and old, onto a separate computer with an existing boot drive, as subsidiary disks, either from the SATA connections on the motherboard (make sure you still boot from the original disk of the separate computer).
Hope this is helpful, if so would you please register that with Fixya
Cheers

Hi Orville,

Your problem is all about your motherboard you need to updated to BIOS firmware to solve your problem.

Go to the gigabyte website then go to your motherboard page and download and updated to the latest firmware for your bios.

Steps in flashing BIOS
How to Reflash Motherboard BIOS About updating BIOS... The whole BIOS updating procedure should be treated with extreme caution. If you do not encounter any system instability or bugs with the current BIOS version, we suggest that you keep it. If you determine to flash BIOS, you are taking a personal risk of BIOS flash failure. Please contact your supplier or our distributors/resellers for further remedy in case system crashes unfortunately because of BIOS flash failure. Before you begin... 1. Please make sure the BIOS version you want to flash matches your motherboard model. 2. If your BIOS is flash protected, please do not enable BIOS Flash Protection under Advanced CMOS Setup (AMI BIOS) or Advanced BIOS Features (AWARD BIOS) in BIOS menu. 3. Never interrupt when you BIOS is being updated. 4. Because BIOS flashing is potentially risky, if you do not encounter problems using the current version of BIOS, it is recommended that you not flash the BIOS. To flash the BIOS, do it with caution. Inadequate BIOS flashing may result in system malfunction. Three BIOS Flash Utilities... We provide three BIOS flash utilities at our website. Below are the overviews. 1 : flashbios_qflash.gif A BIOS flash utility embedded in Flash ROM. Not all motherboards have the Q-Flash, please use @BIOS or DOS flash utility to update BIOS if your motherboard does not have Q-Flash. Features-- With this utility, you only have to stay in the BIOS menu when you want to update BIOS. No need to enter DOS or O.S. mode. Caution-- Make sure you have a functional floppy disk with the correct BIOS version for your motherboard. UEFI - Download PDF User Guide pdf.gif Download PDF User Guide pdf.gif 2 : flashbios_atbios.gif A Windows-based BIOS live update utility. Features-- @BIOS helps you search for, download, and then update the latest BIOS in Windows operating system. Caution-- Make sure your O.S. environment is stable. UEFI - Download PDF User Guide pdf.gif Download PDF User Guide pdf.gif 3 : DOS Flash utility Features-- The flash utility is a combination of AMI and AWARD BIOS flash utility. You can use it with both AMI and AWARD BIOS. Caution-- Make sure you have a functional DOS boot disk with the correct BIOS version for your motherboard.

I hope my solution may help you.
Thanks for using Fixya...;-)

How to disable the embedded cd key in bios

The solution was to use a special UEFI bootable USB thumbdrive with the windows installer on it and include my product key inside a file called PID.txt. When the installer found my key in PID, it ignored the motherboards firmware key.

Hope this helped (-; !~!

I have a problem with acer aspire one a0751 after unfinished flash bios

If the firmware was unsuccessful them replace the eeprom with good firmware but as is usual in these cases, the GPU can fail giving this sort of issue.
Normally if there was no issue before the 'update' then a replacement bios chip should get it going again.
