Since downloading a Microsoft update my HP PSC500 does not work

OK, I would go to the website hp.com and input the 309 model printer scanner and download the latest drivers for it and install from there for the appropriate operating system.

And, I would make sure all of the Microsoft updates are installed from online via automatic updates to make sure your computer system is up to date.

You need a bi-directional, parallel, IEEE 1284-compliant printer cable with
1284-C connector. Here is an example from Tiger Direct:

You can download the software from Hp. Go here:

Select Software & Driver Downloads. On the next page select your opeating system.

Follow the directions. There is not a software download fro all OS. For instance, for XP you will use the XP OS to install drivers.

Try this, it worked for me.
Turn off the computer.
Then turn on the printer/scanner.
Then turn on the computer.
Start/Control Panel/Camera and Scanners
Double click PSC500
Follow prompts

Had exact same problem. Went to HP site and they said to check "add or remove programs" functions (in control panel) and if there are multiple copies of HP software to download their fix. I checked, had multiple copies, downloaded patch and all worked well again.

I visited the HP Support site and downloaded the Uninstaller and then the Installer. It took about 90 minutes but has cured the problem completely. I also made sure all drivers were up to date from the HP site check.
