Why won't my dryer spin or heat? The display and controller board work.

Uhm, you posted this in wash machines, but I'll give you an answer, anyway:

You're missing one leg of your 240 vac somewhere along the way. The control board uses 120 vac, so it's attached to only one leg and neutral, whereas, the motor and the heater are 240 vac, so they use both legs coming in and no neutral.

Anyway, that's the explanation of what you are seeing. The cause of the problem, however, is a little more difficult to uncover. Check your power at the terminal block on the back of your dryer for 240 vac across both legs. Make sure no terminals or wires are burnt up. Then, check your thermal fuse. 90 percent of the time, it's burnt wires or the thermal fuse. For the other 10 percent of the time, it's a little more involved. If you need additional help, just let me know.

Good luck!

GE sells several timers rated for 240Volts.
Including the 15307 timer made by Tork, rated 208-277Volts, 40 amp, 60 Hz
Copy following link for wiring GE 240Volt timers:

I have a PFAFF 487 sewing machine that is wired four three phase. It says on the motor that it will run on 240 or 380 Vac. I need to know how to change it to 240 Vac.

Not sure what you mean by VAC but if the motor says it will run on 240Volts then it should do, no idea what the 380VAC is supposed to be

No dryer or washer control will start the unit running. appears no power...we checked for 240v at plug it ok...

Check the 240 vac again, but measure each leg to neutral while attempting to start the appliance. Each "leg" should measure approx. 120 VAC< (half of the total voltage) and should not change when the unit is started.I think you will find that the two 120 VAC legs will read OK until start up. If the voltage value on one leg drops to 60 VAC or less and the other leg increases by the same amount, Then there is a problem with the neutral wire or the connection between the ground of your appliances and earth ground. This is very common, particularly manufactured homes. Most dryers, for example, use 240 VAC to run the heating element, but also use 120 VAC (one leg of the 240) to provide power to operate the control panel. So... every time a start is attempted, the line becomes unbalanced, the 120 VAC to the control panel suddenly drops, the control panel resets, removing the load, the 240 VAC line becomes balanced again and appears normal.

I wire a 240 heater using 12/2 wire making both the black and white hot at the breaker to a thermostat using the wire diagram on the website as the guide. I have power to the switch and when I turn on the...

You should have the black going to 1 breaker, and the white going to an adjacent 2nd breaker.

Check that you have 240 VAC to the thermostat, and that the breakers are fully set.

If you have 240 VAC to the stat, check that 240 VAC is being powered to the heater.

Let me know what you find. (I am assuming the heat strips are good.).

Kenmoore 70 series dryer wont start

Are you 100% certain the dryer has 240 VAC? Just because a light may light does not guarantee both legs of 240 VAC are hot.

If you measured motor continuity, then you must be able to read a wiring diagram/schematic. Most Kenmore units have a wiring diagram/schematic glued to the back of the rear service panel, or folded and stored in the control head.

I am unable to find a wiring diagram on the internet, but, you have a door switch, and the timer/control.

Use the wiring diagram to trace the signal path's to determine where the failure is.

Let me know if you have any questions and I will do my best to help.

Heater is not heating up.

First, is this a 120 VAC or 240 VAC heater? 120 VAC heater will usually have one Black & one White wire and 240 VAC heater will usually have two Black wires or one Black & one Red wire. If it is a 120 VAC heater then you need to supply the white wire at the heater with a neutral (white) wire from the breaker panel. If it is a 240 VAC heater then you need to verify that you have 240 VAC at the heater from Black lead to Red lead. If you are not sure about how to do this please have an experienced electrician look at it so you don't get electrocuted and/or burn up your new heater. Hope this helps!
