First of all, you need to check if the laptop is correctly connectedto the router. try the following steps to see if you are effectively connected to the router :
1. Open the command prompt on your desktop computer (Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command prompt OR Windows Key+R -> type cmd). 2. Type ipconfig /all and then note down the value given for Default Gateway 3. Repeat the first two steps on the laptop and compare the values of Default Gateway.
If the values are different, then it means the laptop is not correctly connected to the router. You will have to delete the Wireless network configuration (In the Network and Sharing Center, you will find it in "Manage Wireless Networks").Then start the wizard for connecting to a wireless network. Be sure that you enter the network security key correctly.
If the default gateway values are correct, check the firewall/antivirus settings on your laptop. If you cannot or don't know where to look, deactivate them completely and try again. You may also need to check the parental control settings and your web browser settings (notably if it is in offline mode).
Last but not least, on the laptop, delete all broadband connections and/or dial-up connections that are present (in the Network and Sharing Center, go to "Change adapter settings" to find any broadband or dial-up connections).
If the phone rings but no dial tone, possible phone unit is faulty. I suggest to try a different phone unit to verify if it's faulty. If the other phone isn't working too, then report the issue to your phone provider.
first check your phone lines, if they're good call the phone company, you should have a dial tone. netzero only offers dialup so the internet you are using is your neihbors....they didn't lock their router. good luck
If your modem can fax a local number or dial-up an Internet Service Provider in your Local Area then your Internal Modem is just fine.
Check if the configuration of your Modem to access outside long-distance number.
Go to your Control Panel-Open Phone & Modem Options-Dialing Rules (Tab)- then click on EDIT Button.
You can enter the number needed to have a long distance dialing.
If you don't know the number needed for long-distance dialing then ask your Local Phone Service Provider.
