You need a cable with 3,5mm jack in the computer end, and 2xPHONO in the other. Like this:

Where do I get a volume control switch for a M-Audio studiopro 3?

@ Radioshack PN 271-0002 Volume Control with Push Switch, it will fix the speakers but make them MONO, so you need 2 of them to make it stereo. I recommend 2 cause this speakers have the volume distribution problem from factory.

Peavey XR800F 8 channel - I can't get but very little sound to my big speakers. Help

Troubleshooting is always a "process of elimination." Have you tried hooking up your Peavey powered mixer to another set of speakers? How about connecting the speakers to another audio system? Your term "very little sound" could mean audio input problems, mixer/amp settings or failure and possibly speaker damage (internal passive crossovers). Please be more specific.

Hooking up speakers to MacPro

goto straight to the aja card if its final cut pro compatable and upto date.   Look for studio monitors, a good brand for instance yamaha hs80m 8inches that have built in amp other wise you'll need an amp generally for studio monitors.
