SOURCE: Bernina 1008 bobbin tension problem

Double check that your needle is the proper one for your machine, and that it is in properly. It sounds like it is not picking up the thread properly. Tension problems usually have more to do with threading, thread or needle problems than with bobbin problems. Also check your bobbin is unwinding in the proper direction for your machine. Most machines unwind the bobbin thread, turning clockwise. Set your screw back to the factory settings, and give the machine a good cleaning as well. Lint can cause this to happen as well, if it builds up enough to interfere with the needle and the hook action. Double check that your upper thread is threaded properly as well. I suspect your needle is in backwards however.

SOURCE: bottom thread showing through in a loop

If you had just changed the thread, try re-threading or just raise the presser foot (this opens the tension) and pull about 6 " of thread through the needle.

Foot down closes the tension to the setting you have selected.

If this does not work, the machine will need to go into the shop.

SOURCE: Can't get bobbin to wind on bernina 707 minimatic

Is you question about how to 'wind thread in a bobbin'? If so download this manual (al though the pictures are not clear, the first image shows each part with numbers)
Its just above the machine at the right side. See the first image in the manual numbering each parts, its the 14th part 'Bobbin Winder Spindle'.
And if you are looking for parts go to this link
Hope this helps, please rate and leave a comment if the solution was helpful, thanks!

My Bernina Artista 185 has been looping the top thread on the underneath side. Is this a tension problem? No amount of adjustment seems to correct it. What can I do to correct the looping problem?

It is a tension problem. My advice is always to double check in the manual that you are threading correctly. With loops underneath, your tension is too loose, or the bobbin is not seated properly.

My bernina 707 minimatic..isn't working!! My needle keeps getting seized an won't move up an down...Then when i try to sew it sews blanks....

Replace the needle.
Make sure the needle is inserted the right way. If the needle is installed the wrong direction the machine will get stuck.

Check and correct tension of the bobbin. (Guide attached)

Start the top tension at four and adjust as needed.

When threading do it with the pressure foot up so any snags can be felt. If there are snags they must be corrected. While threading, little tugs of the thread along the way will help. The snags can be felt this way.

Bernina minimatic 707 not sewing evenly

Sounds like it's not threaded properly and or you have tension problems. Re-thread with the presser foot UP. Sew a test seam. If you still get loops loosen the upper tension... a little at a time. Sew tests seam after each adjustment.

My Bernina machine is 40 years old - a 707 minimatic but it is in perfect condition, regularly de-fluffed and oiled and had a new motor 4 years ago. A recent problem is with the tension. If I get the top...

You could try puchasing a replacement bobbin case, its possible that the tension spring on it has worn/stretched a bit. Try this website if you are in the USA - or just go to the bernina website and choose your country to find the head office in your country. They should be able to sell you the part or direct you to a local dealer closer to you.

Also clean out the top tension device if you haven't already. Turn to zero and floss between the discs. I use a clean selvage edge of a waste piece of cotton fabric or you could use dental floss or ribbon too, just something to get in there and remove any buildup. Thread, especailly darker colours, will shed dye particles and fibres and over time this can build up in the tension discs impairing their function.

Otherwise, sounds like you've had a really great run with your Bernina - if you don't already do this, then consider taking it for a service every two years too as the internals benefit from a lube on the older mechanical machines. It may be that the top tension device needs replacing to resolve your issue.

I have tried several steps to correct my Bernina 160's bottom thread tension; too loose. I did occur after I cleaned out bobbin case & hook race,

Buy to loose do you mean big loops on the botom? If so fallow these steps.
Usaly big loops on the botom of the fabric means that the top is not threaded coreccty. I would sugest threading the top thread again all the way to the needle. After you have done that pull on the thread and lift and lower the presser foot. There should be tension when it is down and no tensoin when it is up. I allway do this before I sew on a machine. If you do not have tension on it when the presser foot is down you did not get ithe thread in the tension unit. If you have tension when it is up then your machine needs a upper tension release adjustement.
Hope this helps friend.
Other problems could be a small peace of broke needle it the race area(inspect this close).
If you adjusted your bobbin tension this may need to be reset.

1967 Bernina 707 Minimatic is not running freely

Have you been oiling the bearings per the guide? Try to isolate the upper mechanism versus the lower by rocking the handwheel and observing which causes the bind (take the bobbin and needle thread off to prevent jamming). You may have to remove some of the covers to see most of it. As long as no gearing becomes shifted or uncoupled, you should not cause trouble. Try taking the motor belt off to see if the motor itself may be binding. Good to see people keeping old, but still working machines running

Threadtension wrong when free motion quilting

If the thread under the fabric is loose you need to tighten the upper tension. If it's on 4, bring it to 5. If it's on 5, bring it to six and continue doing that and sewing till its perfect. You may need to decrease your lower tension if you can't get it just right.

Stitching too tight on top

I found a screw on the bobbin case (where you put the cotton for the underside stitching) which was very loose. I tightened it and that created more tension for the bottom thread which solved the problem.

Thread loops in top of embroidery

If it was an upper tension problem your loops would be beneith the fabric. Since the loops are on top this tells me the lower tension is too loose. There is a small screw on your bobbincase that you need to turn clockwise to adjust it. Do the adjustment little by little until its good. I would do it like a clock. First turn the screw to one o'clock. Still looping? Go to 2 o'clock etc.
If this doesn't help you, a clean opikl, and adjust by your local dealership could be anywhere from 50.00 to 90.00.
Good luck
