Question about Brother MFC-5440CN All-In-One InkJet Printer

Can't print documents from Word.

I can send documents from the Internet and print them, but I can't print any documents that are created in Word. My printer will print in color off of the Internet and so I changed my black ink cartridge tonight and it still will not print Word documents. All the settings appear to be correct. Help, please.

Re: Can't print documents from Word.

Did you do a test print by pressing ink testprint etc.? Do you have all colors incl. BK? If yes, check the printersetting WITHIN Word. Is the mfc the printer to be recognized by Word or is it another one? If you miss the bk upon the test sheet try to clean the ink cart by help of pressing ink arrow-down-button (cleaning) and (blue) start mono. If there is no or not enough ink check the cart. In case you use third party ones, use an original brother cart and do the cleaning twice. Third party carts do make a lot of trouble due to malconstruction!

I have an HPPhotosmart C5280. I want to print on an evelope 8.2 x 5.5 for a wedding invitation. The printer tells me paper mismatch every time I try it. I set it up every time on the computer, it prints...

The easiest way to print an envelope is to use Microsoft Word. If you have the software installed, go to start and then create new office document and click blank document. When the document opens, click on help and type in envelope. This will give you instructions on how to create an envelope and save a copy to your document. When you save a copy to your document, it gives you a picture of an envelope which helps to create it. Then click on file, and slide down the print and click ok. Creating the envelope through Word helps to change the printers paper settings. Word will send a signal to the printer to tell it what type of paper and size of envelope you are creating.

Hope this helps?

Hey im trying to help my sister out with some documents, only it was originally 4 pages which ive manged to get down to 2 double sided documents (ie 2 pages back to front) and now i cant seem to be able to...

Open the saved document then click file print. Then when the print page comes up on your screen set the printer to print to as Microsoft Document Writer. Which is a virtual printer. Then click print, save the file on your computer either my Documents or on the Desktop. Click print.
It will then print your document to a file.

This file can then be attached to an e-mail.
Let me know how it goes!

Take care!

When i send print appears in a printer press v to use availble media manual feed plain A4

The print job you are sending is in A4 format. If you are using Adobe Acrobat you will sometimes find that documents created in places such as Europe will be A4 not letter size. Check the settings when you send the print job as Acrobat gives you the option to resize and print to available media. You can also check your printer settings as there may be the option to automatically print A4 to letter.

HP C6100 all-in-one - won't print Word documents - only get a blank piece of paper. Will print documents from other programs, off the internet, etc.; just not anything that has been created in Word

I have found that if I save my document as a pdf that it will print. I am not sure why this has happened, but it didn't start until we upgraded to Word 2010.

Found this on the Web Site. If you find helpful, pls rate me. For Epson, You must use Genunie Ink Cartridges. A MUST........

You may be copying something that is "proprietary" . The owner may have it copyright . Owner who can exercise control over what users can do with the software, in contrast to public domain.

Found this on the Web Site, if you would like to copy using the print screen key.
The key may appear differently depending on the manufacturer of your Windows keyboard. The standard position would be at the upper right hand corner of your keyboard and may appear within this sequence of keys...
The sole function of this key is to take a snapshot or picture of your computer screen and copy it to the clipboard (the clipboard is an invisible holding area for content that is copied). Its the same thing as if you copied something from a document and it is now on your clipboard waiting to be pasted in its final destination. Its that simple. As quoted by Webopedia...
Often abbreviated Prt Scr, the Print Screen key is a useful key supported on most PCs. In DOS, pressing the Print Screen key causes the computer to send whatever images and text are currently on the display screen to the printer. Some graphics programs and Windows, use the Print Screen key to obtain Screen Captures.
Now, how do you get to see those Screen Captures or maybe even send them to someone? The quickest and most effective method is to have a graphics editing program handy. If that is not an option, you can open your favorite word processing program and create a new document. Position your cursor at the beginning of the document or wherever you want the screenshot to appear.
Using your keyboard, press Ctrl + V which will Paste the screenshot in your open document. Now you can Save (Ctrl + S) the document to wherever you wish, make sure to name it appropriately so you can easily find it.
You can now send this file to anyone via email, use it in a presentation, create your own little book of screenshots showing how to perform a specific task, etc. The possibilities are endless.
We use the Windows Print Screen Key regularly. You probably will too once you get the hang of it!

Thanks and Good Luck.

Usually this means exactly what it says. The page is too busy because of heavy graphic data.

There are a couple of things you can try, first, make sure that the document does not contain images that overlay other images this will reduce the graphic load on the page.

Second, add more RAM to the printer.

What kind of a document are you sending to the printer? What application are you using to create the document?

Can you do a "Print to File" off of the printer driver's screen and send the document to me at I'll be happy to run some diagnostic tools I have and see if I can get it to print.

Tally 6212 - Landscape Documents Printed Vertically

You do indeed have problem-- the printer is doing what you are telling it to do changing the print from Portrait to Landscape on a dot matrix printer has the same effect as that on a Laser printer, it rotates the print by 90 degrees.

The correct solution of to define a custom size of paper which is the same size as the paper you are printing on.
If you are using Windows 2000, XP, 2003 etc you can create a Custom Size paper in the following way;

  • Ensure you are logged in with administrtor rights
  • Open the Printers Folder
  • Ensure the FORMS tab is selected
  • Tick the CREATE FORM button
  • Enter a NAME for the form
  • Enter the dimensions (be careful of the units you are using --- best results use inches)
  • Do NOT set margins printable areas etc
  • Click on the SAVE button
One you have created the custom size form you should be able to select this by name in the printer driver properties and the software package you are using.
