Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

No ice through dispenser panel

I get water just fine- but when I set the panel to ice and press the dispenser bar- the light dims and the chute opens but nothing else happens. No motor sounds. Unplugged the unit for 30 seconds to see if it would reset. No dice.

    Ooops.  I thought I did post that info- it's a GE  GSH22JFTBB

My hubby read the model as GSH22JTRBB, but I don't find that model listed on GE.

  • belindacat Oct 14, 2007

Hubby turned it by hand, he said it turned pretty freely- no help.  Now the water won't work either.

thanks- hubby is a general contractor and has done a lot of electrical work- I'll find out if he wants to check the board or just call a repair tech.

water dispenser fine, crushed ice and cubed ice no action at all. I have emptied and made sure all moving parts are free. Ice auger in bin does not turn when switch is pressed for cubed or crushed ice.

Remove the ice container and try the dispenser to listen for the motor. If you hear it turning, empty the ice container and try turning it by hand. If the motor still doesn't run try turning the motor shaft. You may have to use some pliers to turn it if is frozen. Once you are able to turn it by hand, try the dispenser again. Please reply to let me know what you find out.

I think there is a motherboard on the rear of this refrigerator that controls everything on this machine. It sounds like it will have to be replaced but you don't want to replace it until all other pieces of the dispenser system have been checked. A shorted motor or solenoid will ruin a new board very quickly. If you are familiar and comfortable checking electrical components with a volt/ohm meter, post back and I will find the wiring diagram and walk you through the checks. If not please have a qualified tech come out and check it. This can turn an expensive repair into a very expensive repair if not checked properly.

GE Refridge GSH25JFXBB Ice but no water

This is solution to frozen water 'plug' preventing water dispense but ice maker still making ice. I first tried a suggested fix from this site to just leave dispenser light on overnight. I added some aluminum foil sealed over the module with a little tape to hold in heat. By morning still no water dispensed BUT I escalated the suggested fix by 1.) placing a large mug of boiling water in the compartment behind the aluminum foil 'cover' heat seal and 2.) added a small bean bag heating/cooling pad [heated in microwave] to the ice chute in the door from the freezer side. After one change out of the two 'heat sources' (about 30 min)...viola! Water dispensing again; proving it was an ice plug in the water dispenser. NOTE: When first adding the heating bag to the ice chute in the door, I found that a good bit of frost had formed at the top of the ice chute, so it appears this problem arose when someone (maybe even me) didn't close the freezer door completely due to overcrowding in that section of the freezer pushing against the freezer section door.

Ice and water dispensing problem; compressor shuts off when paddle pressed but dispensing is sporadic

could be the big motor that turns the ice in the bin when dispensing the ice. pull out the ice bin, check the big metal thing that turns when you press ice at the front dispenser. or you have a big chunk of ice that the motor can not turn.

tnx 4 using fixya,

Ice and Water not dispensing. Light button not working
There's an ice- or water-dispensing problem The ice and water-dispensing system of your refrigerator is quite complex. Many components work together to provide the ice and water. Aside from a simple problem of a leaky water tube or a jammed ice chute, most other components are not user serviceable. We suggest that you contact a qualified appliance repair technician for such repairs.

Will not release ice and makes crushed ice, even when on cubed.

I believe in your case the ice maker part number WR30X10093 being electronic with the control board in the front is the problem. I think the control board behind the front cover of the ice maker may have corrosion and causing the ice maker to malfunction. You can try disconnecting the set of wires to the coil on the water control valve and see if the water stops or turn off the ice maker first and try disconnecting the coil wires later. It has to be the control board or the water control valve part number WR57X10032

Icemaker works fine, only dispenses water

make sure that the ice shoot is not clogged up with ice or the in the ice basket where the ice goes through. Sometimes the ice can be stuck together and jam and nothing will come out.
