Content in your player has been corrupted by resetting the player during a synchronization session. Reset your player, then connect your player to your computer and re-synchronize the content.

I need to recover the data from my PMP-120 (hard drive is removed)

That's because it's a Toshiba 1.8" zif drive.

Adaptors/ enclosures are available on the web.

If the drive is still working once you've taken your data off then sell it. Used 20Gb 1.8" drives are going for about £30+

Boot failure or just nothing?

Boot failure would be the hard disk.
Just nothing would indicate that the system board is dead.

You don't mention using the mains power adaptor.

Iriver pmp 120 use the wrong charger

try this. the iriver doesn't boot at times ( wrong charger or using the right charger abroad), unlatch the battery and hold down the power button for about 20 seconds. also reset the instrument. hopefully that might work for you.
