First of all,Ipod is a registered product of Apple Computers Inc.Mp3 player of Any other Brand is best known as PMP(Portable Media Player). If you are using it for the first time you need to charge the battery for at least 12 hours.if the problem persists its better to find a authorized service centre rather posting question on internet.

Creative zen portable media center problem

Content in your player has been corrupted by resetting the player during a synchronization session. Reset your player, then connect your player to your computer and re-synchronize the content.

I need to recover the data from my PMP-120 (hard drive is removed)

That's because it's a Toshiba 1.8" zif drive.

Adaptors/ enclosures are available on the web.

If the drive is still working once you've taken your data off then sell it. Used 20Gb 1.8" drives are going for about £30+

try this. the iriver doesn't boot at times ( wrong charger or using the right charger abroad), unlatch the battery and hold down the power button for about 20 seconds. also reset the instrument. hopefully that might work for you.
