A rectangle is 5 feet long and 6 feet wide. what is the perimeter of the rectangle?

Hi Jacqueline:
A rectangle has four sides, the lengths of the opposite sides are equal, and the corners are right angles.
The perimeter is the distance around the outside edge, so it would be twice the length plus twice the width.
2 times 5 = 10 feet
2 times 6 = 12 feet
10 plus 12 = 22 feet

What is important is to understand the question.

Two sides of a parallelogram are 694.50 feet and 418.32 feet respectively; one diagonal is 602.94 feet. what is the length of the other diagonal

The three dimensions you have given are also the three sides of a triangle. the length of the other diagonal is equal to twice the distance from the center point of the 602.94 diagonal to the vertex between the 694.50 and 418.32 legs.

A rectangle is 87 feet by 136 feet. find the length of the diagonal and the angles that it makes with the sides.

Length of diagonal =SQRT(136^2+87^2)=161.4465856 ft
One angle = arctan(87/136)=32.60... degrees
Other angle= 90-32.60=57.39 degrees

Need to find the diagonal of a rectangle. Problem is 5' 3 1/2" x 12' 5 1/4". Do I need to convert the fractions to a decimal? I understand to (a)2 x (b)2 = (c)2. The inches with fraction is my problem!...

ra4942 ,

Yes, you would have to convert the fractions into decimal notation, represented as feet.
Example: 5' 3 1/2" is 5.29167'

By the way, the formula (that you know) is "plus", not "times" ....
a^2 plus b^2 = c^2 (the square of the hypotenuse is the SUM of the squares of the two other sides)
