The clicking sound may be the condenser fan. if the compressor is running, check to see if there is dust or ice blocking the air flow on the condensor or if the fan is moving slow. this will prevent cooling. remove any obstructions and replace the fan if necessary

The fridge stopped working last night. The light works, but the fridge just makes this clicking sound every couple of minutes, doesn't sound like anything is running and it does not get cool at all. Any...

Not a good sign, clicking. Usually that click comes from the compressor power circuit. The compressor is attempting to start but it does not. The clicking is from an overload protector that heats up from current draw. It clicks and cuts the power to the compressor, cools down, and the cycle starts again. Could be a start capacitor went bad, but it is probably the compressor.

go to and look up your modle it could be the defrost timer but not sure, if the fridge was built after 1991 it is energy star, but there are big differences even from 5 years ago on energy useage.

Orange star button inside fridge

There is a defrost timer that starts the defrost. It may be in the section where the temperature controls are located. You will find a round hold with a clutch head screw accessible through the hole. Turn the screw clockwise SLOWLY until you hear one audible click. The system should then be in the defrost mode. Wait about 25 minutes and if the timer is good the system should go back into the cooling mode. If it does NOT, advance the timer to the next click and get a replacement timer. The defrost should have taken place if there is no other problem. If the unit went back into the cooling mode and defrost did not take place your problem is in the freezer section behind the rear wall. There you will find two items, a defrost heater and a defrost thermostat. You can check out the heaters with an Ohm meter. No reading, open, means replace the heater.
