Whirlpool Side-by-Side Refrigerator No Water to Icemaker or Door

Model: ED25TWXDW00, 12 years old No water is flowing to the water dispenser or icemaker. Water is flowing through the saddle valve on the water line. The ice maker is cycling to attempt to make ice. A click is heard when pressing the water dispenser, indicating that the system is attempting to produce water. There does not appear to be ice in the feed tube. Should I disconnect the water line on the refrigerator to check for water flow? If so, where? Thanks.

    no water to ice maker

The flipper door on the upper left side of a side by side Whirlpool refrigerator won't stay closed and the ice maker is not working. Any suggestions?

My water dispenser seems frozen. Ice is no problem, and I have already checked the water valve on the nylon tube below the doors passes plenty of water when I press the water dispenser. How do I remove the dispenser on this model to check to see if frozen? Also, does it use a heater to correct the problems?

If you don't get water at the valve and it has power it is likely clogged. Take it apart and find most likely a part where the rubber has softened and clogged a hole that is supposed to open up when the valve is triggered. On mine it was at the bottom of a little metal pole that the rubber was bad. Clear the clogged hole and replace the bad seal and you should now have water.

Check to see that you do have water to the water valve on the fridge. You can disconnect right where the water line goes into the valve on the fridge. Next, if you can, check power at the valve while activating the water dispenser. If you have power at the valve when activating then the water valve is bad. Let me know what you find.

Also, if you are getting power to the valve when pressing the switch for water out the dispenser, you can disconnect the line out of the valve that leads to the water dispenser. Hit the switch again while it is disconnected. If water comes out of the valve then there is blockage somewhere in the line.

LG LRSC21934 ice maker/water dispenser doesn't work

If your house water supply to the refrigerator is poor it is most likely the cause of the water dispenser and ice maker not working. If you hear the water valve humming when the water dispenser is depressed and no water is dispensed it is most likely poor or restricted water flow to the refrigerator.
If you live in an older home the water supply shutoff valve to the refrigerator is usually in the basement or under the kitchen sink. Many shutoff valves are called a saddle valve and the valve is secured onto a cold water pipe and as the valve is turned clockwise a pin punctures the water pipe allowing water to flow. Saddle valves often become clogged with minerals and can completely block water flow to the refrigerator,. If the valve is corroded on the outside it should be replaced. Ice maker installation kits are available at most hardware stores. Copper water line kits are preferred. Cost is under $25.00. If the Saddle valve is in good shape they can be taken apart and cleaned. Be sure to shut off the main house water and drain pipes before attempting to clean.
Newer homes may have a water box in the wall behind the refrigerator. Sometimes these can become clogged with mineral deposits as well.

Hope this helps.
Mike

I have the Kenmore version of this product and the same thing happened. My...

I had water leaking in to the freezer compartment of my LG french-door refrigerator (LFD25860). It was getting on to food in the main basket and embedding it in a block of ice, as well as puddling-up on the bottom of the freezer and eventually blocking the door from closing properly. Because the water seemed to be covering a wider area than you would expect from a blocked defroster drain I didn't believe that my problem was covered by the other FixYa recomendations -and it turned out I was right.
The problem turned out to be that the "funnel" that the water flows through to fill up the ice tray was blocked by a solid piece of ice. When the icemaker would call for more water it would flow down the clear tube (with the open slots on the top) hit the ice and spray/overflow in to the freezer compartment.
The solution was obviously to pop this ice out, but that did require me to remove the icemaker from the wall of the freezer compartment. To do this you
  • remove one screw from the bracket on the bottom of the icemaker
  • Slide the icemaker up and slip it off of the two screws with rubber grommets on them.
By the time I got to that stage I had already removed the basket from the main drawer and removed the pull out tray/basket from the drawer pulls (by simply lifting the plastic tab on the right side and lowering the plastic tab on teh left side). I am not sure if you can remove the icemaker without this step, but I believe so.
Also, if you want to entirely remove the icemaker from the freezer there is only one plug with wiring to undo. As I mentioned above, the water hose doesn't not connect to the icemaker, it ends above the "funnel" and the water drops in. So removal is much simpler than you might expect.

As for the cause of the ice block, I am not sure but I believe it was either because the ice maker made too much ise one time and some cubes could not pop out. When additional water entered the funnel it didn't flow in to the ice tray, backed up, and froze in the funnel. The other thought is that when the door was not closed properly while our grandparents were visiting, the ice melted and subsequently re-froze causing the problem.

The water isnt getting thru to the icemaker, i have used a hairdryer on the water valve and still nothing , i even changed out the water valve but alas no water is being pumped thru to the icemaker, what...

Hello,

Does water dispense through the dispenser ok in the door dispenser??

If yes wate r dispenses through the door ok the problem is going to be with the icemaker itself and its not sending power to the water valve when its supposed to fill so it could make the ice

If water doesnt dispense through the door check that water pressure into valve is sufficent..even if water does dispense what seems to be ok check first that thier is good water pressure into the valve before replacing icemaker

The ice dispenser is making very little ice and the water dispenser has very little water flowing through it

Greetings,

I would check to make sure the water line is turned all the way on...then , check to be sure your filter is not needing replacing. (if you have one)..if these check ok...........its possible your water inlet valve in refrigerator needs replacing...Bruce Denton

We have a kenmore side by side fridge # 106-53644300. The ice maker quite working. Could this be due to needing to replace water filter?

Probably not due to the filter. Do you get a strong, steady stream of water from the dispenser? If not you need to look at the saddle valve, which is where the refrigerator gets water from the house's plumbing. Try screwing the saddle valve in as tight as you can then opening it up all the way. If that dosen't improve water flow you may need to call a plumber.

If you have a good strong stream of water to the fridge something may be wrong with the icemaker itself. It could also be the water valve on the fridge. Your best bet would be to call a professional.

Ge profile refrigerator slow water dispenser

you have a seperate valve for ice maker and water dispenser, though it is possible both could have debris preventing proper water flow, i would check the water pressure you have going into the valve solenoid housing. turn off water to fridge, disconnect the line at the fridge, not in basement at saddle valve. place end of tube in bucket, turn on water. how is pressure? good or slow? if its good, then you probably do need to replace valve solenoid housing. You can NOT clear debris out of these, they must be replaced.
If your water pressure is still not good, either y ou have a kink in plastic water line. Despite having changed saddle valve in basement, if the stem of saddle valve is mounted on bottom half of pipe, debris from pipe is getting into water line and so on. Ge profile arctica side by side- ice maker and water dispenser not working..have already replaced the water filter

The water dispenser and the icemaker both operate on different soleniods on the water valve so the chances of a bad valve are slim. I would assume you issue is in your water supply. The easiest thing you could try first would be to check your saddle valve that taps into your main water line to supply the ref. They are known for calcium deposits which obstruct the flow of water. This issue is IDed by very slow water pressure through th door. If its gunked your icemaker fill tube may also be frozen.

Icemaker makes shells. Outside is frozen but

Hollow cubes are caused by not having enough water in the ice mold. Fill it up manually by pouring water in it and see how the cubes turn out.
look for an adjustment behind the plastic endcover with a +/- on it. - is less water. + is more water.

Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear.

There is a screen filter before the water inlet valve in the water line. It can get partially stopped up with sediment blocking water flow.

Automatic icemaker

Have you made sure your water supply was good and a good steady flow of water is flowing in to the back orf the fridge?/ If you have then theres a small micro switch that opens a water valve at the proper moment of the cycle of the ice maker. This switch is inside the icemaker up against a small cam being driven by a small motor. The switch activates a small valve that lets the water flow into the ice maker.if the water flow is good its the switch or the valve. Good luck
