Fresh air kits

What model of FMI fireplace is this? Is the home a new home that is insulated with a spray foam insulation or anything tighter than regular batt and blow insulation? What part of the country is the house built in? With this information it can be helpful to find a solution for your problem. I work for a fireplace distributor that FMI is one of the lines we carry. Our company has been in the fireplace installation, service, and distribution business for over 35 years. If you give me some more information I might be able to help you find a solution or guide you to the right path. Thanks.

Fan working hot air not coming through front vent

One, is there any air at all coming through the top vent? If not schedule a professional service call with a local reputable company. You may have a blockage. If there is air coming through and it is cool, try letting the fireplace warm up for about 15 minutes before trying to run the fan. The fan can only blow hot air after the fireplace gets hot.

Elco fireplace blower wont work

If your blower/fan blows air into a "box" with tubes that conduct heated air out through the screen, that assembly may have failed. I had one that burned out and had to be replaced.

Can one use unvented gas logs in a superior CF3860 fireplace?I

Little documentation on this fireplace but it appears to be a vented wood-burner(?) If vented, there should be no problem using gas logs. If burning correctly, you may consider cutting back on the flue and intake air, as moisture build-up is the biggest drawback to gas fireplaces. Too much air is just wasting gas.

Black soot on glass and black smoke comes out

Remove the burner and clean all holes ,typically at the end of the burner is a cheep sheet metal valve. This valve adjusts the air to gas mixture by rotating it to increase or decrease the combustible air intake.Air must be sucked into the burner as natural gas is injected into it, this makes for a clean flame,The flame should be blue with small yellow tips.If the flame is long and yellow and sooty increase the air intake on the burner valve.
