How do I determine what motherboard I need for my Asus laptop G46VW-BS15

Hello,

If your Asus laptop has a defective motherboard, you can open the casing and read the motherboard reference on a green sticker printed just below the socket of the CPU, as you can see in the image hereafter
http://www.dhgate.com/product/60-nmmmb1100-c06-for-g46vw-rev-2-0-laptop/237664478.html
The sticker with the reference of the motherboard is between the CPU socket and the memory socket (here it is 60-NMMMB1100-C06 but I don't know if it also the motherboard on G46VW BS15 laptop.)

I need to know what kind to buy for this board. the processor heatsink ASRock ge pro-ht

Socket 478 is a very old socket type, it's been around for nearly a decade. The only processors that work with this socket are Intel's Northwood Pentium 4 and Celeron processors, which are now far surpassed in performance. I would definitely recommend buying a new motherboard for whatever you were going to use this one for. If you are set on this motherboard, however, read on.

Many computer hardware companies have stopped carrying Socket 478 processors. You will most likely have to buy one second-hand. A quick search on Amazon will give you a few buying options (all used) for around $20-$30 US.

Due to the age of the processors, you will probably need to purchase a heat sink seperately. This heatsink is $20, will fit Socket 478, and has very good reviews, but of course feel free to use any heatsink as long as it fits Socket 478: http://bit.ly/hk6yZ5

If you also need memory, be sure it is DDR 333/266, as this is the ONLY type of memory that the 2 memory slots on motherboard will take (maximum 2GB of memory). You can find list of DDR 333 memory in varying capacities here: http://amzn.to/fOGbeV

I have pulled the 6 plugs out of the bios I have 2 2 pin plugs and 2 1 pin plugs and have 9 pins on the bios socket, can you help me to put them back.

You mean the motherboard not BIOS right?

I think you have removed the wires for the start button stop button and front speaker or the usb wires.

Usually the wires have something written on the connection which you can read. The socket pins sometimes have the same code written there. You need to match them together.

If nothing is written, you need to check the motherboard manual. If you dont have it, you need to search for it online by using the model number (which is also written on the motherboard). You'll find a section explaining all the wires and how to connect them.

You might need a good light to be able to read them because they are written is small font.

Good luck :)

You need to read the number printed on your motherboard and post back the problem with motherboard model number, as there are many different amd socket a (462) motherboards.
