What would cause coolant to spill out of ford areostar 96 4.0

Got a 4.0 areostar when at operstimg temperstures it spills most all coolant out immediately underneath the drivers side door area, not positive yet but im thinking water pump not as familiar with ford so im asking if you think so or whats your dialysis

Could be water pump or thermostat, if not either of those try looking at heater tap

I would start the troubleshooting process by first checking the upper and lower radiator hoses for holes and for loose connections. MAKE SURE THE ENGINE IS TURNED OFF AND THE WATER IS COOL!

I would also check the hoses going to the heater core for any holes or loose connections, too

Then I would check to make sure that the radiator cap and the over-fill reservoirs are capped properly.

I would do a pressure test on the radiator cap. If faulty, replace the cap with the same rating per manufacturers specs.

I would place the radiator under a pressure test to re-produce where visually the ant-freeze is coming from (you can buy the pressure test kits at any diy auto parts / supply store.) The pressure should be able to maintain itself- and should not drop; even after a long period of time.

I would also make a visual inspection around the water pump casing and the thermostat housing; if it is wet around any of those areas, that's a clue the leak is emanating from that location.

You can also check the water pump manually to see if the bearings are shot- moving the fan blade fore and aft VERY GENTLY and WITH GLOVES ON. If there is a lot pf play, replace the water pump.

Does your bike have a fan in front of the radiator? if so, check if it is working, also check the filler cap for the coolant, if faulty, it will cause the coolant to leak under pressure

look around near the firewall for another 'dip-stick', similar to your oil dip-stick, you check and add fluid into the same place. and you will want to check the fluid level when the engine is warmed up, and running. (unlike checking the oil) also, a funnel is recommended (dont want to spill fluid around) if you see the need to add fluid

Cap blows off and coolant spills out


The best thing to do is find the cap for the coolant and just twist it open.

I have Honda Accord 96 model, the problem is the Coolant is spilling from the overflow jug after i park my car, but if the AC is not working it is not spilling the water.


Hi Faisal, Salam. It sounds to me as if the cooling system should be inspected and flushed. Also check and make sure that the additional electric fan is working when you have the AC turned on. It would be a good idea to replace the radiator pressure cap. (make sure its an original, because Honda operate at a higher pressure than the other common makes) Regards and Shalom John

96 CAVALIER WITH HEAD REMOVED AND ANTIFREEZE ON ALL FOUR CYLINDERS


I'm assuming you drained the antifreeze before removing the head. It's not unusual for enough antifreeze to remain in the coolant passages so when you remove the head the coolant will spill into the cylinders. It could also mean you have a blown head gasket or a cracked head. Being a gm 4 cylinder, I would guess it has a cracked head. Very common on these engines.

I got a 1995 camaro and just got the oil change and smoke is coming from under the hood.


Sounds to me like oil got spilled onto the engine and exhaust manifold. I had to get an oil filler extension to keep that from happening when I changed the oil in my '96. Otherwise; No matter how careful I was, some oil always got spilled and then it would be a few days of driving and some smoking before it all dried up.

Have you looked things over carefully under the bonnet?

Don't overfill the coolant resevoir when adding coolant. There is a cold and hot fill line on the resevoir. Excess coolant will spill out through overflow tube on resevoir.

Have oil in my radiator fluid reservoir tank (1996 v6 3.8)


Twice in two years now my Saab 9-5 has had a pin-hole in the oil cooler, which has caused oil to flow into the reservoir. A way to tell is if coolant/oil is coming out of the reservoir cap. The reservoir cap is rated for the pressure of the coolant system, which is significantly lower than the oil pressure. When there is a hole in the oil cooler, oil will be forced out at relatively high pressures, causing the reservoir to fill and then over pressurize and spill out of the cap.

the solenoid that releases it is bad or stuck from spilled drinks. try to put it in neutral with the key turned forward one click.
