Re: western digital

I am experiencing this now with a new 1TB drive (I bought 2 to replace my 1TB LaCie drive that  died about 2 weeks ago. Had Computer Forenzics recovered the data at massive expense $$$$.
So after getting 2 WD My Book Studio drives I had my data recovered to one of these 2 WD drives only to get it home and die (so it seemed). After exhausting all possibilities (so i thought) my brother suggested I switch the power packs over and lo and behold - bingo - the drive mounted on the imac desktop. The power packl on one of the two drives was dead when it came back from forenzics.
Now that's what I call reassuring!!!
So now I have to get a power pack for the backup drive. Poooooos.

Re: western digital

Try swapping the cable and power supply with one that works, if that one works, its either the cable or powersupply if it doesn't work, then it's bad and you'll need to get it replaced.  the WD web page has a place where you can enter your serial number and they'll tell you if it's in warranty and set up an RMA for you, they'll ship you a new one first if you supply a credit card number for them to charge in case you don't send back the dead one.

good luck!

Hii, When I plugg in my western Digital Hard disk it sometime get detectable and sometimes not and it is sounding like Tic tic. Could you help me how to resolve this problem.

This is because the hard disk is not getting the sufficient power from the USB port. Try connecting your hard dik on other PC and repeat he steps three four times and see the behaviour.

Besides your hard disk is fine !!!

WD 1 TB is not working my laptop is not reading it spin for a sec and stop what would be the problem please help . Thanks

The disk-drive is "dying". If the WARRANTY (probably one to three years) on the W.D. drive still is VALID -- it probably is, you should contact Western Digital, and get it replaced, by exercising the warranty.

Problem with WD 1.5TB external hard drive

This appears to be a common occurrence with the My Book. It may be a heat dissipation problem from leaving the unit on for longer than it takes to back up your data.

I think you might need technical support from Western Digital. Do you have an alternate backup?

I have a Western Digital Elements 500gb it has a 5pin power surply that is no longer working this unite is not even a year old and i can even find a new one for it

Contact Western Digital. The unit should still be under warranty so they should replace the defective power supply for you. Hope this helps.
