I have kept my 2009 MacBook running faster than when I got it by upgrading the internals of the machine. I maxed out my RAM and installed a new SSD hard drive which are known for their speed, but are expensive. You likely also have a gigabytes of junk that built up in the computer, like grunge in the corners of something that hasn't been cleaned for some time. That what it needs, is a clean. Try this, CCleaner downloadable for Mac on CNET. Click what says secure download next to the left of the ratings.

Upgrading the RAM and maybe Hard Drive are the biggest opportunities to speed up your Mac. It can only go as fast as it's built to, and as time goes on machines aren't always strong enough for the newer and more memory and processor consuming programs and OS.

How to upgrade my macbook pro to Yosemite

Apple has made this feature free, and fairly simple. You should first make sure you have a backup of your hard drive on an external drive (easiest to complete with the TimeMachine feature of your Macbook Pro).

  • Open the App Store app and select the Featured or Top Charts tab. You can search for Yosemite, although Top Charts will usually list it as #1 in the Top Free apps.

  • Click on the Download button for Yosemite wherever it appears (either in the search list, or in Top Charts). Follow the prompts.

  • Depending on your connection speed and the specs of your macbook pro, the installation will take one to four hours.
    • Of course, you will have to have an Apple ID to download anything from the App Store.
    • If you don't have an Apple ID and don't know how to get one, please ask another question on FIXYA.

Will FCP 4.5 HD run on a new macbook?

Your MAC is likely to run on OS 10.x and on that you only can run the newer versions like Final Cut 10.1. See here:

Mms cannot rceived

iPhone 3G has an older OS and I don't think it supports MMS. You could try to do a software update to see if a newer OS includes a better IM client that supports MMS, or you could upgrade your phone to a 4 or better and those will definitely support it. Be forewarned, if your current phone is running the original version of IOS that came with it, upgrading to a newer OS will make it feel slower as newer OSes have more features and stuff going on. Alas, the iPhone 3G is 5 generations ago, you really should upgrade to a newer phone.

I am running OS X 10.4.11 and would like to upgrade my operating system?

Please provide more information.
To what would you like to upgrade it?

Since OSX Mavericks was just announced, I'm going to assume that's what you're wanting to upgrade to.

Not all Macs can run Mavericks.

Mavericks Capable Macs

Mavericks, like its predecessor Mountain Lion, requires one of the following Macs with at least 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB of available hard drive space:
  • iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
  • MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
  • MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
  • MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
  • Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
  • Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
  • Xserve (Early 2009)

If your Mac isn't one of the ones listed above, you won't be able to upgrade.

If you have an iMac, MacBook, MacBook Pro, or Mac mini model that was originally released in Early/Mid 2006, the latest version of Mac OS X your system supports is Snow Leopard.

What are the requirements to download Apple Mountain Lion OSX?

You must have the following computer to download Mountain Lion:

iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
Xserve (Early 2009)

Once that is done, you must be updated to the most recent version of either Snow Leopard or Lion. If you don't have either of these operating systems (which is highly unlikely considering the other computers should have them, but I digress) then you will need to get them before Mountain Lion.

After that, go to the Apple Store and download Mountain Lion!

Macbook won't boot up

what happened to cause this? Software Upgrade? Operating System Upgrade?  If you have Restore Disk or a Mac OS 10.4 or later disc, insert that and restart holding down the C key.  It should start up and may give you the options to install... Instead go to the top menu (or press escape if you don't see the menu) then find the Repair Uitility and run that... Or you can choose one of the appropriate re-install options.  Hope this helps.
