Question about Dishwashers
The motor hums but does not turn on
Do not turn on again !!!!!!!!!! Motor is jammed and will not turn. You are risking burning out the motor windings and rendering it totally unusable. Expensive part.
If unit has not been operated for a while it is possible that the bearings may have seized temporarily. Since those motors do not develop high torque at start up it will stay stalled and burn out if powered up.
Get to motor and make sure that you loosen the shaft with a good pair of vise grips and possible extension for leverage and power.

SOURCE: Turn on unit and motor just hums
The motor bearing is more than likely broken. The seal eventually start to slowly leak its way to the bearing. It then rusts and breaks.
New motor is the solution. Almost imposible to just replace just the bearing due to the way the motor is manufactured. If you are technical its not too hard to replace.
