The best solution for you Ernie, nevigate through your dashboard to your hard drive. Press Y instead of A and select a format. This will reset your hard drive to factory, deleting everything.

SOURCE: 360 drive only reads dvds, not xbox 360 games, just says put in an xbox 360 console.

You need to flash the drive with the old drive's key; otherwise the your xbox motherboard will not allow that drive to access the gameplay engine and will not allow you to play games.

SOURCE: xbox 360 plays dvd but not games

SOURCE: Two XBOX 360 Games won't play on original XBOX Console?

Erm, the clue is in the name guys. ORIGINAL XBOX plays ORIGINAL XBOX games. The XBOX 360 plays games designed for the XBOX 360 plus an array of ORIGINAL games. The original console will NOT play 360 games.

Xbox 360 loads up then crashes then comes up on screen system error with a code e71

This is likely to be a dashboard error, possibly caused by an update. Try resetting the console. If resetting doesn't work give the xbox team a call, it will probably have to go in for repair.
To reset:
  1. With the console off, press and hold the sync up button.
  2. While holding the sync button press the power button to turn on the console
  3. Continue to hold the sync button until the Console has booted up completely.
  4. During the boot process the console should clear any failed updates, allowing you to use it normally.
