Just two wires. One is common, & the other is 24 volts from a call for heat.

The gas valve is on the White/ W circuit from the Thermostat's
W terminal. The other side of the gas valve is the 24 volt Common side of the 24 volt control circuit power, it is called common as every 24 volt circuit terminates upon it. (common)

Furnace does not start

Furnaces usually have a high temp limit switch that turn off the gas if the plenum gets too hot, as it may if the fan fails (or air flow is restricted) and the furnace is running. These are in series with the gas valve so if they fail open will prevent the furnace from ever turning on.
Trace the circuit from the transformer through each component (including the thermostat) and check for an open circuit at each location. Replace the one that has an open circuit.
Also check the fan to be sure it is working properly when you directly connect power to it.

Need to wire furnace blower

Gas valve should only have a couple of wires...24 Volt & common. the blower will use one speed on a gas furnace & a common. If you have AC or a fan switch on your thermostat, then the high speed will also be connected on the blower.

There is a small Allen head screw in the gas valve that can be removed to test for gas after the gas valve. When the gas valve opens, gas should be present at that port. If none, you have a bad gas valve. If you gas gas, then there must be a restriction at the main burner.

Installed new gas valve. Wired according to instructions with valve. Shows 3 wires coming from igniter to gas valve. 2 tabs on valve above pilot. Burners won't come on.

I need more info to help you out. You need to check if there is anything else wrong with the furnace. But a for the gas valve goes you nee to check if your geting 24 volts to the gas valve. The pilot sensor might be bad. What kind of gas valve do you have. are the three wires coming back to gas valve Yellow, White, and Green. If they are most likly its the flame sensor not the gas valve.

Installed dayton nat gas hanging furnace in garage and have 2 wires dont know where they go one came from the back side of the transformer it was twisted with the other wire

Hopefully there is a wiring diagram glued to one of the panels to verify but on the transformer you will have 2, 110 volt wires. One is the power coming in (usually black wire) and the other is a common (white wire) and will be connected to other common leads. On the low voltage side of the transformer one wire will go to the thermostat then from the thermostat to the gas valve. The other side will connect to the gas valve. When the thermostat calls for heat it completes the circuit from transformer to gas valve back to transformer.

either the gas at the outside valve is off, or the gas valve at the furnace may be off, or the switch on top of the gas valve in the furace may be off. if they are all on, then you may not be getting a call for heat from the stat to the furnace control board. check to see if you are getting a 24 volt signal from the stat to the w terminal and common terminal on the furnace board. if you are then check to see if the voltage is arriving as 24 volts to the wires at the gas valve itself . if it is then the gas valve is possibly bad. if it is not then the board is possibly bad.look for loose or broken connections on the low voltage wiring. most unusual that the board does everything else but send power to the gas valve. you need to zero in on the valve i think and start by turning off power and that should restart the sequence of operation and you can observe it step by step . if you are not getting a call for heat then the stat may be bad be sure you are in heat , fan in auto and temp pushed up to max. if no 24 volts is sent to furnace board white and common low voltage board then stat is bad. remove it if you think its faulty and jumper the white and red wires together on the subbase. that duplicates what the stat normally does. if the furnace lights its the stat. having said that i realize the stat has to be sending a heat signal or the other stuff would'nt start. so..... back to the furnace board. check that 24 volts in from stat and 24 out to valve and that will put you on your problem item. good luck

Power should be shut off at the breaker. Check with a meter before disassembling wires. The gas line gas valve will be at 90 degrees of the gas line when off, however to make sure, try and start the unit with the gas valve at 90 degrees. Remove the front cover of the unit and look for mounting bolts. From the outside, remove the vent screws. The unit should lift off its mounting bracket and slide toward you.
