Question about Chamberlain Power Drive 1/2 Hp Heavy-Duty Screw Drive

1 Answer

Chamberlain power drive garage door opener stops prematurely in both opening and closing

In order to eliminate possibilities, I disconnected the door to see how the unit would work. In each test, the trolley would stop at a different spot and the light would turn off. I would wiggle the trolley and the light would come back on. The problem seems to be associated with the trolley. I don't know where to go from here.

I'm not familiar with the operation of this particular device but, based on past experience with others, I would say that if this is a newly-installed device it still has the factory safety settings and they're too low for your installation. There should be two knobs on the case to set the tolerances for raising and lowering the door; one to protect against blockages on the way up and the other on the way down. Try putting them both at the maximum. If that works, reattach the door and check again. If it still works, turn the "up" control down until it doesn't anymore then turn it back up just a bit. Then put a full roll of paper towels on the floor and adjust the "down" control until the door going down stops and reverses when the cardboard tube in the middle of the roll starts to deform. Good luck!

The garage door opens and closes without my control. Please help.

This problem is most commonly caused by a bad wall control or the wires going to the wall control. To eliminate both possibilities you can remove the wire from terminal #1 on the rear of the motor unit. If this stops the problem you can then replace the wire on terminal #1 and remove the wires from the rear of the wall control. This should isolate the problem to the wiring or the control.

I have a Chamberlain LiftMaster Residential Garage Door Opener Chain Drive 2255. It no longer opens or closes. When you hit the button it makes a churning noise then stops. There is a code flashing on...

Remove the cover from the motor unit and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor and is probably stripped. The part number is 41A2817.

Door will not close with remote.

The code you are seeing with 5 blinks is "RPM sensor or motor overload." We can eliminate the motor overload because the door is trying to close. The RPM sensor is a small printed circuit board just in front of the motor. It's a snap to replace and is available at any good door opener company. They will know exactly what you are talking about if you ask for an RPM sensor board.

Door opens randomnly

If you find it does stop when you remove the battery from a remote then the switch is stuck on. But most commonly this is caused by a bad wall control or the wiring going to it. You can remove the control from the wall and then disconnect the wiring on the back. Remember which wire goes where. You can also eliminate the possibility of bad wiring by removing the wire from terminal #1 on the rear of the motor unit. This should help you by process of elimination.

Door opens on it's own

The most common cause of this problem is either a bad wall control or a staple cutting through the insulation of the wiring running to the wall control. You can eliminate both possibilities by removing the wire from terminal 1 on the motor unit or you can just eliminate the wall control by removing the wires on the back. You need to go through a process of elimination.

Chamberlain Liftmaster Pro. Garage door Problems closing

The sensor eye - or more likely, the other end, the sensor light - probably got knocked out of alignment. The eye should have an LED on it - possibly one that glows green when it's ready to close or red when it's obstructed or out of alignment. Try adjusting the light until the LED on the receiver glows green.
