Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

LG. Why are wires attached to KSD1 150/0 (MGT Thermostat) burned?

What do these burned wires mean? Do I need to replace the KSD1 150/0 and repair the wires or is there something else wrong?

Hi,

If the wires were loose and cause them to burn under a load. Loose terminals cause high voltage and burn switches, relays and thermostats. I hope this helps you.

We see this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide for $39.95 postpaid.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan operation, too. The lights and fan can be inoperable or stuck on too.

There will be one wire that will go to two and only two points: From the high voltage tap on the high voltage transformer to one terminal of the capacitor. There will be nothing else connected at either point of that wire.

The other terminal of the capacitor will have two or three wires connected to it. It will go to the FA terminal of the magnetron and to the non-ground side of the high voltage rectifier diode.

You can locate it by looking inside the cavity for an area that is perforated.
If this area is not a panel that can be removed, replacing it may (often) require removing a few sheet metal screws along the rear edge of the unit; rarely is the housing held on with more than that.
With the screws removed, lift up on the rear edge and pull toward the back.

DO NOT LEAVE IT PLUGGED IN!

Also, because there are components that may keep a charge (capacitors) for hours, I would recommend letting it sit unplugged overnight before removing the housing.

The bulb may be either a cylindrical type such as many sewing machines use or a smaller version of a standard bulb.
Neither of which anyone ever has at home, of course.

Any of the large 'home improvement' stores should have these 'made in China' bulbs at an inflated price.

Remove vent grille, then remove control panel. Check wire to cavity thermostat. Sometime wire bundle and small space causes poor terminal connections on this thermostat and will burn wire terminal. Cut off bad part of the wire, install a small terminal end, reconnect to thermostat. If thermostat is destroyed, also replace thermostat.

The vent fan is not working but micro is. Replaced charcoal filter & reset still not working.

follow this steps and fix it. God bless you

  1. Exhaust fan motorIf your exhaust fan motor is not running, there are a couple of things that you can check involving the motor to locate the problem. After removing the fan motor, you can manually attempt to turn the fan blades with your hand. If the fan motor is working properly, the blades should spin effortlessly. If this does not occur and the blades are taught, the motor will need to be replaced. Secondly, the fan motor itself can burn out due to time and usage. Using an ohm meter, the exhaust fan motor should read open for continuity. If it does not, then the fan motor has expired and will need to be replaced.
  2. ThermostatAnother part that could cause the microwave exhaust fan to not work is a faulty thermostat. A thermostat gauges the air temperature, which activates the exhaust fan when required. If this part becomes flawed, the exhaust fan will not energize and the thermostat will need to be replaced.
  3. Main control boardIf your exhaust fan is still not working and the microwave fan motor, wiring, and thermostat are operating accurately, the root cause could be with the main control board. Replace the main control board.

GE microwave JVM1750DP1CC will not turn on..clock is out, etc

Sometimes folks will actually run the microwave empty (which is very dangerous) when they actually mean to just use the timer.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here. It may come in handy in the future.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating

components.

When this error occurs, the magnetron gets too hot because there's no load, and its protective thermal cutout (MGT TCO) will open, interrupting all power.

Then when it cools to a safe level, the oven will work again.

Sometimes the TCO fails and has to be replaced, and sometimes the magnetron gets damaged from the heat depsite the protection of the TCO.

If the MGT TCO is okay, also check the fuse, and the oven cavity TCO.

Accessing the oven cavity thermostat for testing and possible replacement will require you to remove the oven from the wall and take off the outer cover.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can find more helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number (JVM1750DP1CC) here.

Don't hot food Like to know where fuse is

There are 2 fuses, to access them you have t oremove the outer housig. You do that by removing 4 screws from the bottom and 8 from the back. The outer casing can then be slid to the rear of the unit and lifted up and off.The fuse you probally need would be the MGT Thermal Fuse which is usually located top center. The other fuse is the line fuse located on the right side of the unit.

My old GE oven (JSP38G052BG) won't bake or broil. It start then stop after 1 or 2 minutes. The heating elements get worm. Can you help me please

Hello ediben11.

If your oven's bake or the broiler heating elements won't heat but the range burners still work;the clock may be set for a timed or self-cleaning cycle. So,make sure to check the clock buttons and the knobs are set properly.
*If your clock has a knob that says "push for manual" then push the knob in after that, try the baking and broiling elements again.

*If it still does not work properly, you may have a defect in the thermostat/selector switch/common wiring.

*If the oven does not have a separate bake or broil selector switch; then the thermostat is probably the problem. It is not easy to check the selector switch or thermostat for proper operation. If you suspect a problem in this area, call a qualified appliance repair technician.

Hope this helps.

Magnetron part help

The service manual is here, and the support page with exploded view and parts list is here.

The original Amana / Whirlpool part number was 53001594 but it is no longer available. Another matching part was WP8206570 but those are "NLA," too.

The service manual will not show the LG part number.

If the attached photo from the Pros is correct, then the original LG number was 2M246-310GF.

You may be able to find one in "new old stock" by any of those numbers at local or online parts suppliers or on eBay.

Contact me directly if you need more help.
