If you cant splice a wireto it use another connector and therminal if your starter nut on the selenoid is rusty most likely your selenoid gonna break try simply putting another nut at the end of the selenoid if you got enough tread to intall it
Could be several problems - check the battery terminals to make sure they are clean. Next check the battery to see if it is fully charged. If both those items checked are OK then the next step is to check the starter.
Now the starter has a selenoid which engages and provides power to the starter motor when you turn the key to the start position.
If you only get a clicking noise then it could be the selenoid valve itself or the starter motor.. Some fords have the selenoid mounted on the firewall others are mounted on the starter motor itself.
So what you need to do next is bypass the selenoid valve and provide power directly to the starter - if the starter turns the engine over then the selenoid valve is the problem. If the starter motor doesn't turn the engine over then it's the starter motor and a replacement is necessary.

Some vehicles have a seperate selenoid on the firewall that engages when you turn to switch to start the engine. Others have the selenoid mounted to the starter. I
I would first bypass the selenoid valve and provide power directly to the starter motor. If it starts then it's the selenoid. If it doesn't then it's the starter motor - may have a flat spot in the windings or possibly burned but not shorted windings in the motor.

I will now asume by "firing the starter" you mean the car will not turn over. I will also assume that you have checked the battery and it is able to make contact with the starter selenoid. The starter selenod is the salami shaped unit which is on top of the starter.
You will find that there are three contacts on the back of the selenoid. One is the ground to the engine block and the other are leads for the battery.
I will also assume that you do not want to take the starter off.(taking it off is the simplist way to check if the starter is bad or the starter seloid).
Back to checking the starter. Under the car looking up to the sunlight from the starter point of view, you will see a cable that runs from the starter selenoid to the battery. Also make sure that the ground wire(the wire which attaches to the engine block) is clean.
You now know that you have battery power to engauge the selenoid and the starter if both are working properly.
Attempt to start the car. If it does, you have solved the problem. If not,using a pair of jumper cables, attach one to ground and the red one to "short" the curcuit.
This is done by placing the red jumper cable clamp accross both non-grounded leads off the startrer selenoid. If you hear a click, then the starter seleniod is working. If you hear a click and the car turns over your starter and seleniod are both good. If you do not get a ckick or a start then the starter and attached selenoid are both bad and need replacing.

The problem you describe is consistant with a faulty starter selenoid. You can check the selenoid by attempting to jump power from the incoming hot selenoid connection to the hot that goes from the selenoid to the starter. Do this with the switch in the "on" postion. Based on your description, the starter selenoid is not getting enough juice (current) to pull up solidly. So, causes are:
1. Low battery voltage
2. bad connection of battery+ at the battery or at the selenoid terminal.
3. bad ground connection between the starter selenoid and the truck chassis.
If you want to bypass the selenoid, you can place a jumper cable on the "FAR" side of the selenoid (the side that feeds the starter). Then momentarily touch the other end of the jumper to the battery + terminal.
If the starter cranks, then you have confirmed the selenoid as problematic. Remove it and either replace it or disassemble and clean it.

Starter selenoid clicking? - if not, wire from battery has a bad connection. If yes, starter has bad connection.
Try bypassing the starter relay (selenoid) with a jumper cable... does it turn over? If yes, replace the relay, if no, check the starter. A junkyard replacement should be a cheap fix.
You have to clear the fault code in the engine ECM. Even though you filled up the coolant and solved the physical problem the computer stored the code. I'm not sure about the Cat skid steers, but my TL130 did this and I disconnected the battery overnight and it went away. I'm sure if you contact your local CAT dealer they will tell you how to clear it, just have your machine serial number handy cause they're gonna ask for it. Hope that helped...
