Question about Dryers

1 Answer

My dryer, model Mdg6800aww, currently vents to the side but I need to change it to the back but the installation and user manuals do not say how to do it. Any ideas?

You need to take the dryer apart to do that. You would have to reroute the vent internally to go to the back of the dryer.

It's piece number 17. You have to get started by taking the screws out of the left and right side of the door hinge. Then open the door and pull the front panel forward. There are two 5/16 on the bottom of this model you'll have to remove, I'm pretty sure, too.

SOURCE: Change dryer vent from side to rear

Not all dryers have the facility to vent out of the side, if they can , you should see a knockout panel or cover at the side, remove this and fit vent to side.
It is important that you blank off the outlet where the hose was fitted originally.

Maytag neptune #mdg6800aww burner lights but wont stay lit after about 15 seconds

Well that could be a blocked vent causing over heat, bad blower wheel, simply cleaning out the dryer and opening up the vent helps a bunch. Ya gotta take the door off first to get in the machine. Then the front comes off then you can check the innards for airflow issues.
this un is electric model but they come apart the same. If the glowbar comes on and the flame sensor shuts down the glowbar ok and flame comes on and runs about 30 seconds that seems to be the norm for this style dryer. The heat does not stay on. Clean it up and put it back together and if it does better ok if it dont then you gonna need to replace the cont stat and gas valve coils.

When the dryer wont heat it is the thermal fuse that is bad, you can test it with a voltmeter before replacing. This fuse is located inside the rear panel and it cannot be reset.

Hope this will help...

Where is the thermal cupple on the maytag neptune GAS DRYER MODEL#mdg6800aww

It sounds like the unit is cycling on the thermal limiter. To verify, disconnect the vent from the back of the unit, if this improves and you have longer cycles, then its more than likely just a dirty vent, However, If you disconnect it and it still continues to short cycle then its the hi limit thermostat & it needs to be replaced

you would need to "punch out the metal" , youl also need to remove the fron tof the unit(2 screws approx 3-4 inches down form inner panel, holding front panel on, ( youll need to remove the top of the dryer( a few screws across the back of unit.) andthen disconnect the dryer belt(easiest acess through a small acess panel on lower rear of unit, pull the dryer drum out and youl see the existing ve, just a matter of attaching a 90degree elbow and running vent out the side instead of out the back. DISCONNECT POWER TO UNIT FIRST!!!!!!!!!!

Maytag Performa dryer venting

You are always better off using steel on these kinds of conversions and do not worry about how hot it gets,..Aluminum will get hot too. Steel is more rigid and less likely to dimple in while installing or hooking up the external vent system... Hope this helps..
