Question about GPS
Ive checked the battery and it seemed good and I really don't know where to go from here. Ive had it a little over a year so I guess the warrenty has run out. Ive had other problems too with the depth finder but I need to get it to turn on before I can address that problem
1-You might not be out of warranty
2- try powering the unit up without any of the other accessories plugged into the unit. Sometimes if you have something wrong in something else when the unit powers on it self checks, any problem anyplace when it first boots up will cause it to shut down
3 I don't know anything about these things but have seen other devices where this happens and the problem is usually a faulty add on

Depth: Could be for a number of reasons, too deep for the sounder - check the manual for it's max depth. Dirty water, sounder unable to penetrate through to the bottom. Weed or other debris covering the transducer. Transducer on a swing mount & being pushed out of alignment then dropping back in once stopped.
Speed: Is the speed readout controlled by a GPS or paddlewheel? If it's GPS, check the power connection of the sounder, may be loose which would also cause the depth to 'drop out'. If it's paddlewheel, you're down to bad connections or faulty unit.

It sounds like you may have to send it out for service, but before you you do there are a few things you can try.
Low voltage can cause erratic behavior. Since you already wired directly to the battery, check the plug for corrosion.
Try unplugging the transducer cable to see if the display still behaves erratically. You wont see depth readings but you should still see the screen going black. If no erratic behavior with transducer unplugged then problem is in the transducer cable or the plug. A common source of failure is at the plug because the added stress of plugging and unplugging cables can cause the socket to twist slightly which can cause a short.
Make sure you have the latest software update.
How to see if your LCX-19C is already using version 1.8.0 software:
Copy it onto a blank MMC card and install it in your GPS. The GPS should prompt you on how to install the update.

SOURCE: When turning on the Lowrance
here is the link to your the lowrance web site. the trouble shooting guide says that if you tried to it on another boat than you might need to take it in for service. but there is a section that explains how to do a soft reset on the unit. you might try that.

SOURCE: 4150sx finder erratic depth
I had the same problem last time I was out in shallow water (in less than 2 metres of water) and I suspect that the problem was weed wrapped around the transducer but won't know for sure until I take it out on the water again. I had another problem re water temp which I'll enter separately.

I installed my Navman 4150 depth finder along with the Navman GPS unit when I purchased my Bayliner Trophy 20Ft. Offshore model. Everything was ok for one year and it has been downhill since then. Losing signal, unbelievable high depth ranges, blank periods, etc.. I now can't even get a reading tieded up at the dock. I am now giving up and shoping for a quality unit.. Cape Disappointment.........
