Take the battery to AutoZone Auto Parts and have them check it. It the battery has a low charge, AutoZone employee will charge the battery overnight. Both testing and charging are at no cost to you. After your battery has been recharged overnight, go back to AutoZone and have them test the battery while you are there. That way you can see for yourself if the battery is good or needs replacing. They will explain all the hows and whys to you. After you have resolved the battery issue, make sure that your battery cable connectors on your car are clean and free of any corrosion before you install and reconnect the battery. Also, goes without saying, make sure you tighten the battery cables properly onto the battery. Hope this helps.

Check the wire connections on the starter If the small one is loose the starter solenoid will not engage the starter and you get a click like a dead battery. Several rapid attempts will usually get it going.

I have 2005 I changed the starter and battery good but it still won't start

First does it crank, if it does then check to see if the fuel injectors are getting fuel.....could be a fuel pump...

second....if there is nothing when you turn the key and the battery is good and the starter was could be a bad ground.....thats the ground coming off your battery and goes to your chassis of the car.........let me know how you make out.

Door ajar clicking on off

when you turn the key do lights on the dash come on before trying to start? if it goes click after you turn it further than to on then it sounds like a dead flat battery. get a jump start and let run for 15 mins-half an hour then turn it off and try again. if it doesnt at least crank then its likely a battery that cannot be saved and needs replacing.

I have a 2004 dodge stratus that has power to lights but does not turn over when i try to crank even after jumping it off.

Check ignition switch fuse. This is a 20 Amps. see that it has not blown. In 2004 Fuse should be nr 8 in the power box under the hood (newer models #24).

Once you are sure that battery, fuse and wires are OK, check starter and ignition switch. Check if there is 12V to starter while cranking. If there is power and the starter motor does not turn, then the motor is gone.
If there is no power to starter motor when you crank, then the ignition switch located inside the steering column may need replacement. Before repairing, try reading error codes with a code scanner.

My friend has a 2004 Dodge Stratus and it will not start. Instead, there is an annoying clicking or tapping noise when the key is turned. Is that a problem with the alternator or battery?

Sound as if battery is dead. Battery will need to be checked and recharged. If battery checks out as good, might want to remove alternator to have it checked to be sure that the alternator is also good.

Look into the starter motor.

Car is 10 years old and starter motor problem is linked to startup issues in cars. Common issue

Will not crank

Did you replace the starter relay yet ?
A quick and repeated clicking sound, like a mini machine gun firing sound is usually a dead battery or bad electrical connection, but it could also be a bad starter relay.
You sound experienced enough to know if you see a corroded wiring connection this would be a sign of a bad connection.
Are you sure the new battery has enough charge in it to turn the car over? Try jump starting it just in case.
Good luck and keep us posted.
