Question about Cell Phones
GSM is a voice technology protocal, so making phone calls while GPRS is a technology for data. So in most cases you need both. AT&T and T-mobile are heavy users of the GSM standard while sprint and verison use CDMA. Here is a good list of Carriers and their standards. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_wireless_communications_service_providers

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
New users get 2 Free calls (no credit card required) and instant help on almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, appliances, handyman, and even pets).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Call t-mobile and ask for a terr 2 tech.
Tell them you have a u600 and they will text you with the 'setup up file" for free.
When you get the text, it will automatically set everything for you.
Understand that to get internet you need to have the BASIC internet option added to your contact (about $5/ month), you DO NOT NEED THE FULL data plan for this phone.

SOURCE: alfatel h1 GPRS Setting
Which APN are you using? If you use "cmwap" then you need to set up the proxy address and port (10.0.0.172:80) - with "cmnet", they should be blank.
I have to admit that I would have expected the Alfatel to be already set up - it's made in Shenzhen, after all - so it's possible that your phone has a fault.
