Problem for Hard Drives
Generic problem for all Hard Drives
1st and 2d eide conector on mobo
I know when I install to my existing hard drive my second hard drive must be the slave, but if I want to install to my second eide connector on my mobo do I use cable sellect or is it still slave drive,this will not be the boot up drive just more space thanks newby.

-my pc is windows xp home edition 2002,service pack 2, 2.53 ghz 2.00gb of ram, will this system get me over the 137mb limit,where can I find 48-bit lba support on my mobo,would a ata host adapter or pci card adapter (I'm sure their the same) solve my problem installing hd more than 137mb any help would be appreciated

Hi,
Does not really matter whether slave via jumper or cable select on the secondary IDE. Your mb will boot to whatever HD you set it at in the BIOS/CMOS as the first boot device. The 3rd drive will be recognized as secondary whatever and if your CMOS/BIOS is set right it will boot from the primary master on IDE1.

No disadvantage on using a second IDE but experience has shown me that my file transfer is a bit more smooth if not fast if the drives are in the same IDE cable (master & slave by jumper).
