Question about Denon AVR-3803 Receiver

1 Answer

Stereo clicking sound

Hit by lightening. I took cover off and hear a clicking sound at transformer. That is all it does as if the protection is kicking in.

OH dear! Lightening is not friendly with electronic equipment. A clicking sound is almost certainly the relays dropping the power supply out and then re-trying. If you are lucky you may only have fried your rectifier diodes. This, and any other fried devices should be obvious with a visual inspection. Sorry, not much help. Do you have lightening damage insurance?

I have power and temperature readout but pump and heater do not come on.

This sounds like either the transformer is not working or you have a bad circuit board.
First thing to do is check the voltage coming out of the transformer.

My dynex tv wont turn on! the strom knocked out our power, now the power is back on the tv wont turn on from remote or tv power button.

Lightning is a weird beast, and can do strange things to a TV. Sounds like the set took a hit. If there is a fuse then check it on a volt-ohm meter for continuity while it is out of the circuit, and if it is an open circuit, replace it. If there is a circuit breaker, then reset it. If these don't work, look for obvious scorching on the circuit board (assuming you know how to avoid electricution, otherwise do not touch). Lightening can literally jump around on a circuit board, so there is no way to know what part of the set was effected by the strike - the lightening will not always burn out the first circuit it touches, but will burn out something further into the circuit. The most obvious place to look is around the transformer and rectifier circuits. If a capacitor was hit, it may be swolen or discolored; resistors will scorch, and the worst thing is that transistors and IC's often show no damage - in fact, any part might be burned out and not show visible signs. If nothing is obvious (like scorch marks) and the fusing is intact, there are too many possibilities to begin listing them all. The fact that it won't turn on at all sounds like it is probably a power circuit, but, not necessarily. FYI turning a set off during a lightning storm does not protect it, you have to unplug the AC power cord and the line that feeds the signal into the set. Even circuit protection devices (lightning arrestors) may not protect against a close strike. Maybe the techs at Best Buy can supply more suggestions (Dynex is their brand).

My sound is done on the TV- it was working fine last evening and today the sound has disappeared - i may have hit a wrong button- but not the mute one- i checked that alread

Did you unplug for any reason? I unplugged cable box and tv due to lightening and lost my sound when I plugged back in...had to go into the cable box menu under audio and set my output to "Stereo" instead of "TV Speakers"...frustrating, I know!

I had a lightening strike at my home. Since then, the garage door does not function with wall switch or remotes. when i press the switch, light comes ON on the door opener and i hear a click but nothing...

Well, I don't think that disconnecting the garage door from the garage door opener would affect function.

The lightning strike could have destroyed the circuitry inside the garage door opener, seeing that it won't operate with the wall switch or remotes.

It's likely that a board was fried by the lightning which would render the garage door inoperable.

Jvc sxpw650, my house was hit by lightening and now my sub makes a loud noise and the receiver which was grounded reads overload after the speakers work for a few seconds! please help? can i just replace...

The reason it goes into overload is due to the fact that the power amp section parts have developed a short and thus causing an overload in the power supply. The affected parts need replacing and I rather suspect that the subwoofer amp section has also developed a fault. I rather think with the lighting damage that you might have to replace the lot! And not just the subwoofer!! If your house was insured replacements might be covered by that. If not you sound like your in for a big bill!

Ac Adapter gets hot and monitor clicks off

AC adapters are prone to voltage spikes and lightening.
It sounds like the AC adapter has taken a hit.
Replace it as soon as possible. This may be a fire hazard.

If the lights in the house dim and brighten a transformer near you may need to be checked. Call the utility company and report the problem.

Other than that, if the AC adapter is getting hot and no apparent damage outside. It has probably sustained internal damage. Continued use could cause fire and/or damage to the monitor.

Good luck!

When push the power button, I can hear a relay click but the unit will not power up. I took the cover off and fuses are good. Can't find anything in the trouble shooting section of the manual. What do you...

When the unit functions correctly, you should hear 2 clicks. The first is the power relay that "starts" the unit. The second is the speaker protection relay that will kick in the speaker connection. If you do not hear the second click, the unit is in protect mode. This means that a problem was detected in the amp section and the unit is prevented from connecting the speakers. This is done to prevent further damage. Typically the output transistors fail and cause this. Expect a parts cost in the $25-$50 range for this repair.

I don't get any front display or any sound when turned on.

Do you hear any clicks? If not, the standby transformer or related circuitry is bad. If you hear 1 relay click...the audio output section is most likely the problem. The first click you hear is the main power relay...and should see display.. the second relay click is the protection circuit relay engaging to let audio to your speakers...if the second click is not heard (it should occur in 3 to 5 seconds) there are shorted output transistors or a shorted output IC trying to blow your speakers with 50 to 75 volts dc. The protection circuit monitors the speaker lines for voltage. They should always read milli-volts only...not even 1 volt.Anyway, good luck

No power/ clicks 5 times.( At wics end!!!!!!!)

I would suspect either the High voltage distribution block and/or the high voltage transformer as being at the root of your problem, especially with the HOT transistor being bad. If this set went out during a power surge/lightening storm however, all bets are off.
