I have a JVC GR-DX100EK digital video camera, which I've had for 5 years but never downloaded any of my tapes on to the PC. I can no longer find the software to load onto the pc but do have the correct jvc usb cable. I've tried to use Windows movie maker but the pc is not detecting the camera. Is there a website where I can download the correct software, I think the original software was pixela imagemixer. I'm a complete novice at this so I would like to check, once I have the correct software loaded I just need to plug the digital camera into the pc & then put it on play????? Hope you can help. Kind regards Toni

- Hi,
Thank you I downloaded the driver. I then tried to import the video using Windows movie maker as. I still had the same problem it is not displaying the camera fo me to choose.

I plugged the camcorder in, connected the usb cable from the camcorder to the pc , set the camcorder to play (on the camcorder display screen it has a little box with pc). I then selected import on Windows movie maker and i tried 'Roxio my DVD' & both did not have the gr-dx100ek to select. I am getting really frustrated with this!

Thank you
Toni

- Hi,

I have tried & my husband has tried, but driver did not download so pc does not recognise camera. We tried to download pixela software, that didn't work either. Any other suggestions?

Kind regards
Toni

- Thanks, I've checked and it is not listed I only have canoscan which is my scanner.
I don't have the pixela software as I don't have the original disc & the link you gave me wouldn't complete download.

1) Find out what kind of FireWire port your camcorder has there are 2 types 6 pin or 4 pin, have a look in your 'user manual'

Other common names include DV OUT, Computer, 1394 or i.LINK port.

it usually looks like this

http://www.vasst.com/training/cam-1394co...

2) Now check if your PC has a Firewire Port again it might be a 6 pin or 4 pin, although 4 pin is mostly common on Notebooks

usually look like this

http://www.hardware-one.com/reviews/Yama...

or

http://public.online.ksu.edu/support/kyc...

3) if you don't have a FireWire Port then you can either put in a Cardyourself...which means opening the PC up and Installing it into a sparePCI Port

which look like this

http://www.netshop.co.uk/CategoryImages/...

There is no other way on a desktop of getting FireWire, althoughNotebook owners can buy a simple Plug-in Card which slots into a sparePCMCIA slot

http://www.morecomputers.com/extra.asp?p...

4) Once you have all that You need a FireWire Cable according to your slots 4 pin to 6 pin or 4 to 4 6 to 6

Its mostly 4 pin to 6 pin cable

Connect up start up PC and once into Vista, Start up you Camcorder then use Image Mixers Import mode to transfer Video to PC

Phew !

Hope thats a bit more clear
