Re: securing my wireless connection

Hi ladynb,

Open the DI-524 window by typing into internet explorer address bar, and press enter.  Fill in your password, and press enter.  Click on the  Wireless button. This should open the Wireless Settings window for the 524.  Set SSID broadcast to  Enabled. Set Security to WEP.  Set Authentication to open system.  Set WEP Encryption to 64bit.   Set Type to HEX. Click and select radio button next to KEY1.  Enter a 10 digit number that you can remember, like 1234567890, or 1111122222.   Now click the Apply button at bottom of the screen.

Now any device that you wish to link  will will need to use this Key.   Scan for the router, connect and use Infrastructure mode, Type in the 10 digit number you were suppose to remember, and off you go.

How to conect with wireless internet

The Network and Sharing Center in Microsoft* Windows Vista* can be used to set up a secure wireless connection to the Internet.

Note: If an Internet connection is not automatically made by the operating system, you may need to contact your access point (AP), broadband wireless router manufacturer, or Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Set Up a Secure Wireless Connection to the Internet

These steps assume that your network adapter; AP or router; and cable, DSL or another type of modem have already been physically connected and configured. They allow you to create a new connection and configure it accordingly.

Follow these steps to set up a secure wireless connection to the Internet.

Note: If a wireless profile does not exist, you will need to create a secure wireless profile before you can set up a wireless connection to the Internet.

1. Access the Network and Sharing Center.

2. Select Set up a connection or network.

3. Click Connect to the Internet.

4. Click Next.

5. Select Wireless. At this point, if the network(s) that are listed say that the network settings do not match the network requirements, as shown in Figure 1, create a secure wireless profile and then follow the steps again.

6. Select a network and click Connect. If you are not connected to the Internet, you may need to contact your AP/router manufacturer or ISP.

Access the Network and Sharing Center

To access the Network and Sharing Center, use one of the following methods:
  • Start » Control Panel » Network and Internet » Network and Sharing Center
  • Start » Network » Network and Sharing Center
  • Right-click the network system tray icon (the icon that displays two computer monitors) » Network and Sharing Center

I have a belkin.4bda router connected to my laptop from my pc which normally works very well, however from time to time my laptop will not allow me to connect to the internet saying that my security key...

The PC connects to the Internet because it uses a network cable that is attached to the router.
The laptop connects to the router with a wireless connection, you most likely have enabled encryption on the router's wireless settings and if the laptop's wireless card has not been configured with the router's encryption settings, then it cannot connect to the router via the wireless until you enter the encryption (security) key.

My router is a wrt54gs wireless-g,but it is wired ether cable.

  1. Make sure that your game console is wi-fi/wireless ready.
  2. Check the wireless settings (SSID, Wireless Security) which are configured in your router. To do that you need to access your router's setup page.
  3. Launce IE from the computer connected to the router and type which is the default IP address of Linksys routers. Then, it will open a window asking for a username and password. By default, there is no username. Type admin on the password field.
  4. Once you're in the router's user interface, click WIRELESS tab. Take note of the SSID or wireless network name.
  5. Then, click on a sub tab called Wireless Security. You will find there the type of security enabled in the router as well as the security key.
  6. These settings such as SSID and wireless security should be configured to your game console in order for it to connect to your wireless network through the Linksys router.
  7. Hope this helps!

Unable to connect to my wireless network connection (SSID still VISIBLE)

Log on to the router, go to your wireless setup page. Disable wireless, reboot it and when it comes back up, enable wireless once more with a different pre-shared key. You'll need obviously to enter this new key into your laptops. Let me know if this solves the problem.

Wireless router help

Are you trying to connect the game console wirelessly? If you are, you have to make sure the wireless connection on your router is activated. Pull up the interface of the router by typing its default gateway on the address bar of a browser. Default gateway of the device(router) can be obtained by typing ipconfig in the command prompt.
Once the interface of the router is pullep up, check on its wireless settings. Make sure it is enabled. Enabling your wireless settings will enable you to name your wireless connection too. I suggest you secure your wireless connection so your connection will be solely used by you, and ofcourse, for your protection as well. There are a lot of security encyption types you can make use of. I suggest you make use of wep and make sure you are using 64 bit. 64 bit enables you to create 5 text or 10 hexadecimal digits as the wireless security password. 13 text and 26 hexadecimal digits for 128 bit, and 29 text and 58 hexadecimal digits for 256 bit wep key.
With regards to connecting the ps3 or any game console online wirelessly, follow these simple steps:
1. Select NETWORK SETTINGS under setting in the HOME MENU
2. select WIRELESS
3. select SCAN
4. select an access point
** An SSID is an identification name assigned to access points. This is the same wireless name you have configured on the router.
5. select the SSID or the wireless connection you have created
6. select the security method (WEP)
7. type the wep key you have created
8. select EASY on the menu
9. save your settings.
10. test your connection. The system will now attempt to connect you to the internet
11. Confirm the connection test results. If a successful connection has been established, information on the network will be displayed.
If you need assistance for the wired set-up, just tell me so I can provide you with the steps. Goodluck!
