Question about Canon P170-DH Calculator

Open Question

I have a Canon P170-DH calculator and it is printing smeared numbers. I have replaced the roll and it is still bad. Can I clean something or replace something?

It looks like there is a build-up of something on the numbers that won't come off. The ink roller has been replaced but it loses its ink VERY quickly. They used to last a year or more. Now it's a month or two.

CLOCK & CALENDAR FUNCTION

Look for the key with the cal/clock pic on it. Use to switch between calendar or clock mode. It is next to the feed key.
(12/24) Key used to switch between 12 or 24 hour at clock mode.
(Time Set) Key used to set the date and time in calendar & clock mode.
(AM/PM) Key used to switch between AM or PM at clock mode time setting.
(Format) Key used to select date format between "YYYY/MM/DD",
"DD/MM/YYYY" or "MM/DD/YYYY" at calendar mode.
Hope this helps, play with it I figured it out with instruction sheet.

SOURCE: Changing Ink in the Canon P170-DH Printing Desk Top Calculator?

The manual for the Canon P170-DH calculator is found on the canon usa web site. It is 22 mg in size, but prints out to 4 pages in English, Spanish and French.

According to the manual: Use only Ink Roller CP-13.
There are four figures showing the steps, so you'll have to imagine it.
1. Turn power switch off.
2. Remove the printer cover (Figure1).
3. Hold the tab of the ink roller. Lift the ink roller out of the base (Figure2).
4. Insert the new ink roller into position. Push down on the center of the ink roller until it locks into place (Figure3).
5. Replace the printer cover (Figure4).

Print out the manual for yourself and put it in a safe place.

Probably dirty. I would take it apart and clean that key. You might take pictures to ensure that you can put it back together correctly.

Good luck,

Try removing the batteries and unplugging from power supply. Then replace batteries/reconnect. That may restart the unit.
