Monitor flickered and then... smoke!

The monitor was flickering with lines and then it went black. And finally, the monitor smoked like a chimney and that unmistakeable odor of fried circuitry was in the air.

Hi Konsuma, You can open the monitor case and look to see what is damaged and order a new circuit board if needed. Check with parts and/or Repair.

Monitor intermittent power problems. Horizontal green flickering lines

You have to check the ESR in tha caps in power supply with esr meter.
If you dont have one just replace all capacitors in the power section(there are severals of them)This is the simptom of low esr in the capacitors.
Return the monitor in factory settings.

Monitor flickers with lines across screen

screen is going bad which is why its flickering and has the lines across the screen. Theres a board behind the lcd and when that doesn't process the voltage properly it can cause the screen to flicker. White lines across the screen means the screen is going bad. At this point unless your monitor is under warranty, go ahead and replace it.

#1 Connect monitor to another system, make sure the issue is the Monitor, not the video card.
#2 Try a different VGA or DVI cable
If the issue is isolated to the monitor, it is cheaper to replace it than to repair it (Refurb 17" LCDs are $69 on Dell's Outlet

Well, this problem is going to only get worse. You can probably send it back to the manufacturer if you still have a warantee, but if you can't just buy a new monitor.
