Lite On LH-18A1P DVD RW

I am currently using Windows Vista Ultimate and cannot seem to get my Lite-on DVD RW drive to work. Windows recognizes the drive and tells me that the newest drivers are installed, but nothing! It worked fine with XP. I have tried contacting Lite-on and that was a big waste of time. I was told to contact Microsoft? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I have a Liteon SHW-160P6S and have exactly the same issue. The drive worked fine under XP and will read CD and DVDs fine but is not recognized by Vista as a burner. If I remove my new Vista drive a reboot on the old XP SP2 drive, the drive burns fine.

I have a lite-on in my new Vista machine and it doesn't recognize any type of disc. Once in a while right after a boot, it will work one time. There are no drivers to change, since the Vista drivers are the only one available. I've tried writing to a black CD and it never finishes (on the rare ocassion it even recognizes there is a disc).

I've uninstalled and reinstalled. I even reloaded the firmware. No luck.

I have the same problem with 18a1p, Vista recognizes it fine and says it is working properly but when I insert a Cd or dvd it spins the disc for a while then stops and the cd is ejected and the message "insert disc" pops up. I was thinking it might be a BIOS fixable item but it's not, if it were Vista wouldn't show it on My Computer...I had this drive installed on my XP and it used to work perfectly...I couldn't find anything on the Vista help page or the Lite-on one...any help anyone?

Why does eject dvd not work

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electic extensions or just replace them they are probably old and faulty a computer needs its connections to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

Lite On LH-20A1H DVD RW burner refuses to recognize DL disks?

I have an LH-20A1S, & I am using Roxio Easy CD
Creator 6; Yes, I know there are newer versions, but they all ****! Anyway, it USED to work just fine in recognizing DL DVD's W/the updates from Roxio's site. & now there is no option there for this size (8.5)w/in the actual Creator prog. Is it the drive? This JUST started happening recently. Any clue if it IS the drive? & if so, any idea what caused this? I've always used Lite-On's & have NEVER had this sort of prob before! & of course it is out of warranty, & a discontinued model to boot! standar DVD drives are real cheap inprice these days, but STILL I do't wanna have to buy an new one if I can 'fix' it. BTW, I have updated the latest firmware for this drive from Lite-On's site too, & it didn't resolve this issue either!

Lite-on dvdrw lh-18a1p does no reconize music cd`s or dvd movies.

If you are trying to copy store bought dvds most have anti copying protection built in which will not allow a dvd burner to recognize them. I hope this helps.

Problem with DVD + R

If your product was made before july 2007 you could try the firmware offered here on the lite-on website. Download the firmware zip file and extract then run the exe file inside.

Lite On LH-18A1P DVD RW

Copywrited DVD Movies require that an MPEG software DVD Decoder be installed on your system. Windows doesn't include any because of their Anti-Trust violations and court issues.
(not to be confused with other media players, and DVD players that are included with DVD Movies, such as HOTLLAMA, and Interactive - you still need a DECODER. This is a throwback to the early days of PC DVD ROM's that required a HARDWARE MPEG DVD DECODER be installed, usually in a PCI slot, and connected to your video card through the VESA expansion connector. Nowadays, the hardware is built into the DVD unit, but it still requires a software decoder to operate).

Every DVD ROM or Burner comes with one...usually "Cyberlink PowerDVD", and now Nero's included one in their bundled OEM package.
Any version of any one of these will unlock the "DVD Movie" features for all media player installed on your PC.
[oops, almost forgot, you need Nero 7 or better for Vista. Any Cyberlink should work for you].

If you don't have one, try borrowing one from anyone who's got one. You can also go the P2P route, and download one, if you're so inclined.
Good luck, and I hope that fixes your problem!
