The exchanger alone will run $600 or more, and the headers aren't cheap either. Best to replace the heater. I have had customers do expensive repairs (despite my objections) only to have other expensive parts (T-stats, gas valve, burner tray..) break soon afterward.

Jandy is the closest relative of Teledyne, they used to be affiliated. RayPak has been making reliable heaters for decades.

Not the excanger but the headers that connect to it. This is a long played argument between should I run water through my heater constantly and have the water erode my pipes or isolate it an have the stagnent water rust away in the header. I have long been of the school that says keep water running through heater. The damage it will do is minimal if your chems are kept right and the rust that forms the other way not only hurts the heater but it will stain the plaster when it gets into the pool or spa.

Pilot light on but heater will not start

check the high-limit switches. Under the inlet/outlet header. if either is open it will not allow you to fire up. my 150 degree switch was corroded and after jump9ng out, bam it worked.
