Led christmas lights stay on when shut off

My led Christmas lights stay on after the switch on the surge protector we have them plugged into is shut off. They are very dim but are still on. Is this an indication of a serious electrical problem.

Not neccecarily. leds have become so incredible efficient that the small currents from induction can be in some rare cases enough to dimly light them.(an unplugged extension cord running alongside another live wire will "pick up" some volts. not enough to light up regular bulbs but a led might). try it without the surge protector

does the same problem appear if you replace the surge protector with another switchable extension cord? it might still be a faulty surge protector. but its not neccecarily so. would still test it to make sure tho (measure the resistance trough the leads. should be very high on atleast one lead)

SOURCE: no power

Unplug the tv press power on and plug it back in.
some of these units have a reset clearly marked on the back.
connect direct to wall as the surge protector may now have issue.

SOURCE: No power. Electricity has gone off several times

is sounds like the power supply has been spiked by high voltage from the power reset it may be possible to fix by replacing the power supply if you have some electronics skills such as soldering and reading wiring digrams

Led christmas lights too bright

Usually if you plug a lamp dimmer in, you can dim LEDs. The problem is that you may be using a switch-mode power supply which will give feedback and automatically increase the voltage. The manufacturer is probably the only safe way to get information as to whether this can be done.

L E D christmas lights stay on when shut off.

No it's not. Your LED Christmas lights are okay. Your surge protector is fine too although the switch on your protector is an SPST type - it is connected to one line of your AC outlet. When turned off, the line with the switch is physically cut, but the other line is still alive. Some LED circuits and TFL lights blink even when the switch is turned off, probably because one line of the AC power is still (a)live. If this worries you, just unplug the LED lights from the protector.

In the "off" mode there is power leakage as some of the LED Christmas lights are still on

1) Buy timer that is rated for inductive, and not just rated for tungsten or resistive.
Rating usually appears in each product manual except with cheap knock-off timers or older timers that might not show rating or have rating sticker on timer.

2) Digital timers work differently than mechanical timers.
Digital do not completely shut off the circuit, unless they are rated for inductive.
So inductive loads like CFL or LED will have slight glow.

3) ALWAYS plug outdoor timers into GFCI-protected outlet.
Unplug timer from wall when working with lights, and cords.
Stand on dry surface or plywood and never bare ground.
Plug timer directly into outlet, and do not use extension cord.

4) Don't use LED Christmas lights because they have no warmth and look cheap and un-inviting.

No power cannot turn on

Suggest you check the simple stuff first.

Not checking is akin to a car that won't start, and tearing apart the entire fuel system, only to find it was just out of gas.

1) Make sure the receptacle the surge protector is plugged into, has power. Surge protector Power On light should be lit.

2) Check THE receptacle in the surge protector, that the computer itself, is plugged into.
Have had a number of expense surge protectors, where just THAT receptacle was bad.

("Hmmm, surge protector Power On LED light is lit. Monitor, printer, sound system, and router plugged into the surge protector has power. Should be good to go.

Plug a table lamp, or similar device into THAT receptacle.
Make SURE it has power)

Surge protector, and receptacle in surge protector checks out?
Bypass the Power On switch.

See if the problem is a $5 Power On switch, or the Power Supply.

(Generic ATX Power On switch that I have found fits many computers,

{The Power On switch, is located inside the plastic Power On button assembly}

This is information about computer Power Supply's,

This is a basic example of an SMPS, (Photo at upper right. You can click on the photo to enlarge), and info about.
(Switched-Mode Power Supply. The main type of power supply used in personal computers),

By bypassing the Power On switch, you will be able to determine if the problem is the switch, or Power Supply.

Bypassing the Power On switch turns the Power Supply on?
Bad Power On switch.

Bypassing the Power On switch does Not turn the Power Supply on?
Bad Power Supply.

A jumper wire is used on the 20, or 24-pin ATX main power cable.
The jumper wire goes to the Soft Power On, (PS_ON. Green in color), to ANY Ground wire.
(ALL Black wires are Ground wires)
A MOMENTARY contact is used.

(Example of a 24-pin ATX main power cable, and it's respective connector, )

In order to guide you in this procedure, I need to know the computer manufacturer name, and Model Number.

On a desktop computer this will be located on the Back of the computer tower, (Next to the Windows product key), or up on the side of the tower.
Some models have it where there is a door you open in the front, and the product number, or model number is located there.

Sharp aquos 42 won't turn on even though the green light is on, turns on for a second then goes black, but green light is still on, if you turn off and on for about 20 times it eventually stays on

Call 877-332-7867 and allow the customer service representative to create a case file for you. Next ask to be walked through an INIT/factory reset. You will need two people unless your tv is plugged into a surge protector that can be switched on and off with your foot because the first step will be to unplug the television or switch off the surge protector it is connected to. The next step is to hold down two of the buttons on the panel while plugging the unit back in/switching tbe surge protector back on with your foot.

Artificial Christmas tree comes in 3 parts A B C

You can probably find instructions online, depending on the maker. What kind/brand of tree is it? Do each of the power cords plug into the next one down, or is there a large multi-tap outlet somewhere (either halfway up the tree or at the base)?

Is this a led string of lights? Is it only two wires, if so how many lamps is on the wires this may be a battery run unit. I would need more info, if you can list more so maybe I can help.

My daughters xps 200 won't start, she presses the button and nothing. She has checked the surge protector that it is pluged into and it is OK... is there a reset button is there was a power surge??

most surge protectors have some sort of on/off switch and a reset button. If there was a surge then you would need to pres the reset button to get the surge protector to function again. If there was no surge then try using the on/off switch on the surge protector to see if that helps. Also try simply unplugging the power cord from the back of the desktop while the computer is turned off. This will sometime also help.
