Exact same problem, same laptop model. The head phone jack works sometimes, and other times it just won't. I tried the standby thing. It didn't help.

I've had the laptop for about a year, and it just started doing this in the last couple of months.

When I play a song , It plays well with the built in speakers . Now if I jack in head set , the sound does not come on to head set speakers .

same problem same model.. But the interesting part is that when i plug the headphones in the HD audio shows that i've plugged headphones into the jack. At first it was just occasionaly and after the reboot they've started working again. But for know I haven't heard a beep for a few months. And my headphones work on other devices too. And another problem is my battery when i'ts plugged in the computer just shut's down for know reason after 10 minutes. And the computer woldn't even start chargeing. I'm never ever going to brought an Acer in my life.!!!

I got tired of trying all these suggestions because i can't seem to get consistent results... so i simply went to radio shack and bought a set of usb headphones... they plug into a usb port and work excellently

I have the same problem (Travelmate 2482 - not Aspire) when I switch between linux and windows (XP prof.) or sometimes when laptop is working all day.
The only one solution which works (in my case) is to turn off computer and disconnect AC adapter and battery for approx. 1.5 hour.

Standby your computer and then ON again. Should fix the problem

Unplug your headphones from the headphone jack, put your computer into standby or reboot, once finished loading up, try plugging in headphones again.

did you try another set of head phones? the jack for the headphone where it was soldered most likely broke off you can take apart and try and resolder it.

I have an Acer Aspire Notebook. When I plug headphones into the audio jack there is no sound, however, the sound works fine from the notebook speakers. Can anyone help me?

Hi, May I know if have tried alternate headphones and if they are the same?Does the headphone work when wiggled within the port if yes then the issue is with the headphone jack being loose and you would need to send the computer for a repair if covered by the manufacturers warranty as the headphone jack needs to be replaced. Thank you for your time.

Headphone Jack not working

Welcome to FIXYA

first off for the cd/dvd problem goto control panel >system and maintenance >device manager and make sure you have up to date drivers and if yes then i would do a disk clean and a defrag of the computer as for the headphone jack i would do the same thing it might just need the drivers updated

i hope this helps out if not let me know have a good day :)

hi Mrguitar
Happy holidays
Depending on the conector size and for the computer, I suggest go to Radio Shack and buy a extention jack to the headphone for your particular sound card, and headphone. this should work. sometimes the new conectors don't fit well on the sound cards. so change for an extention I send you a link of example
