Question about Dyson DC44 Animal Cordless Vacuum

1 Answer

A new Dyson DC44 with a screw rather than a "push button" to replace the battery. I can unscrew/loosen the screw but it won't come out and the battery won't loosen so as to pull off and be replaces with a fresh battery. What do I need to do differently?

The battery compartment screw probably is captive, which means you can loosen it but not remove it completely. Once you have loosened the screw as much as possible, you may have to carefully pry up the battery compartment cover to release it.

SOURCE: I have a brand new Dyson DC28 Airmuscle Vacuumand

    Hi there,

Your DC28 is equipped with Airmuscle™ technology, which allows you to raise or lower the brushbar to suit the flooring you're trying to clean. You should be able to make your DC28 easier to push by changing the setting of the carpet height selector. You can find out how to adjust this in the user guide included with the cleaner. In case you don't have yours to hand, here's an online copy:

    http://media.dyson.com/downloads/US/floorcare/Manuals/dc28_opmanual_usa.pdf

By raising the brushbar, you should be able to reduce the force needed to push and pull the cleaner. If you've tried this, it may simply be the powerful suction which is making it feel a little heavy to use.

If you're still concerned, please get in touch with us free on 1866MYDYSON or email askdysonUS@dyson.com. One of our experts will be happy to answer your questions.

      Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC16. Although your cleaner will no longer be under its original 2 year warranty, the new motor assembly would be covered by a 12 month warranty if you purchased it directly from Dyson. As long as the cleaner has been used in accordance with the terms and conditions described in the manual, we should be able to replace this for you.

Alternatively, we could arrange to have the cleaner returned to us for further inspection.

In either case, please get in touch with us directly so we can discuss the issue further. You can call us free on 08002980298 - our Helpline is open from 7am until 10pm, 7 days a week. We look forward to hearing from you.

Should a Dyson 45 battery work on a Dyson 44 motor head?

The listings on 3rd party batteries like at NewEgg (
      HQRP Battery for Dyson DC31 DC34 DC35 DC44 DC45 DC56 Series plus HQRP... ), Ebay (
NEW DYSON DC44 DC45 VACUUM Battery Type 2000Mah CORDLESS DC34 DC35 4402B ), and others lump the battery for the DC44 and DC45 together, so you're probably fine.

You may want to take the battery to a Batteries Plus or such - sometimes a battery will show voltage just fine, but choke once there's a load on it. They have the gear to tell (same as with car batteries)

How do i replace dyson DX5 battery

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

Depending on the age of your particular DC44 machine, the battery will be held in place either by a round silver clip, or fixed in place by two screws.

If you have the version with the clip, simply pressing this will allow
the battery to be removed and replaced. The new battery will clip into place.

If you have the version with the two screws, you would need to undo these to remove the battery. One screw is above the charger connection on the handgrip, and the other is behind the washable pre-filter. To access the screw behind the pre-filter, please follow the steps to remove the filter shown in our filter washing video guide:

My dyson DC44 is only 7 months old. It will not charge. The green light blinks constantly. Do I need a new battery already?

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty charging your DC44. We're unable to specify an exact lifespan for the battery as this will depend on how each individual machine is used and maintained. But we would expect the battery to last for at least the 2-year guarantee period in normal use.

When you have your machine easily to hand, I would encourage you to get in touch with us directly so our experts can talk you through some diagnostic checks to help us confirm which part is at fault. If a replacement part is needed, we can also check that this is covered under your 2-year Dyson guarantee.

You can reach us by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU). We'll look forward to speaking with you.

How do you remove the battery on the DC44. There is no push button to release it.

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

Like all current Dyson cordless and handheld vacuums, the latest version of DC44 features a battery which is fixed in place, and isn't designed to be removable on a day to day basis. This helps ensure a robust connection between the battery and the main body assembly.

Between uses, you can recharge the vacuum in the wall-mounted docking station, or plug the charger cord directly into the machine.

It is possible to remove the battery if you ever happen to need to replace it with a new one, but otherwise we would advise against removing it from the machine.

I hope this helps, but if you'd like further advice from our experts, you can reach us by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

I have a new Dyson DC44. It has a screw rather than a push button to remove the battery. I bought a spare battery. When I unscrew/loosen the screw, the screw won't come out and the battery won't pull

Hi Mike, it's Jack at Dyson.

Our cordless vacuums including DC44 Animal now include a fixed battery which is not designed to be removable in everyday use. As DC44 offers a runtime of up to 20 minutes of high, constant suction, we've found Dyson owners don't usually need an additional battery to complete cleaning tasks.

The battery is removable if it ever needs to be replaced, but we would advise against attempting to swap the batteries in normal use as the machine isn't designed to be used in this way.

For further advice I'd encourage you to contact our Support team directly - you can reach the Dyson Customer Helpline by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), or 1-877-397-6622 (CA).
