You may want to try and reinstalling the wifi driver from Toshiba.
Also, you will have to control the wireless connection with the Toshiba software "Intel PROSet/Wireless WiMAX Software as opposed to the network settings in Windows.
The link for the IntelPROSet/WIreless software is listed below:

My laptop (doesn’t matter what brand, we’ve had the same issue on all of them) disconnects from the internet and when I go into internet settings the ‘use a proxy server ‘ box has a check in it. I uncheck...

My suggestion would be trying to clear the dns cache. This can be a problem and is simply done with the following in command window. Make sure you start up the command window as administrator before proceeding:

  1. At the command prompt, run the following commands in the listed order, and then check to see if that fixes your connection problem:
    • Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter.
    • Type netsh int ip reset and press Enter.
    • Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.
    • Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.
    • Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.

How to Fix Windows Socket Error

In order to understand what a Windows socket error is, and how to fix it, you first need to know the basics about windows socket. Windows socket is a specification in Windows. Its main function is to define how the network programs will communicate with each other, or how windows software access the network. A good example of these would be how an FTP client or a browser access the internet, that is, through windows socket.

Errors sometimes occur whenever the windows socket becomes corrupted during the removal or a spyware or adware. You are able to identify a windows socket error whenever the basic commands such as ipconfig does not work, or if you have absolutely no internet browsing capabilities.

The way to fix a windows socket error is to reset the entire Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) on your Windows computer. You can do these by either using the command line, downloading a third party application and the like.

Windows Socket Error Command Line Repair

In order to reset the TCP/IP network stat, follow the steps below:
1.Go to the command prompt.
2.Type in the following command: netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
3.This command will rewrite the required registry keys for the TCP/IP to function correctly. If this does not fix the problem, then proceed with the next solution.

Reset the Windows Socket Using netsh
1.Go to the command prompt.
2.Type in the following command: netsh winsock reset catalog

This command will reset the Windows socket to its default configuration. The risk here is that if you reset your Windows socket to default, several programs may be lost, and you might have to reinstall them. These would be programs like Google desktop search and other similar programs.

Hi smb343646205,

Welcome to FixYa! How are you doing?

You did not specify the Operating System you are using, whether Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7.

Anyways, try to reset the Internet Explorer Settings to resolve the problem.

To use the Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature from Control Panel, follow these steps:
  1. Exit all programs, including Internet Explorer (if it is running).
  2. If you use Windows XP, click Start, and then click Run. Type the following command in the Open box, and then press ENTER: inetcpl.cpl If you use Windows Vista, click Start. Type the following command in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER: inetcpl.cpl The Internet Options dialog box appears. Click the Advanced tab. Under Reset Internet Explorer settings, click Reset. Then click Reset again. When Internet Explorer finishes resetting the settings, click Close in the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box. Start Internet Explorer again. The Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature restores the following items to their default settings:
    1. Home pages
    2. Search scopes
    3. Browsing history
    4. Form data
