SOURCE: I need VAIO® VGN-FJ170/B Restore Disks

You can create your own disc from the Vaio recovery center.

If the computer is no longer booting up and the Vaio Recovery center is no longer accessible, you can call sony parts center to check if you can buy a recovery disc for your unit

create a boot CD from this utility....and use KILLDISK in there (a DOS application)
it will do a low level fromat and make all ur Harddisk sectors to back to "000000..." as it was when it was made....as good as new...

If you're lucky there will be a recovery partition, you can access it in the boot menu so try hitting the F keys when it boots up, may be ESC, F1, F8, F10 etc, try each. (most common for Vaio's is the F8 key)
Once in the boot menu look for recovery, if its not there then you dont have it and will need the disks. If you dont have the disks then you'll need an operating system disk or a technician to rebuild it for you like us friendly chaps at MCSLondon.co.uk :)
