I would press F8 just before it tries to boot up and choose safe mode.

SOURCE: my laptop

This is going to be a loose connection somewhere inside the machine. I recently had a machine with the same problem in my shop. Every time it was picked up and tilted to the left it would go to blue screen, I had to completely disassemble the machine to find the problem. Turned out to be a media cable that had slid slightly out on one end. As for the check disc, a blue screen generally indicates an operating system error or interruption, this is what the machine recognizes it as and runs the check disc. It doesn't realize, that in your case, the operating system interruption is due to hardware instead of software, and we know this because it does it when moved. If it were software it would do it at any time.

SOURCE: my acer laptop won't reboot to factory mode

back up all of your data(music, documents, videos)before you do this..if you can boot up then use ubuntu, slax or other types of bootable cds to set it back to the factory setting you are going to have to get a xp installation(asuming it is xp,or what ever disk came with your comp)the disk should say operating system on it.what you do is put the disk in and boot off of it.if this message don't come up 'press any button to boot from cd......' then your going to have to go into the bios and change the cd drive before the harddrive.if the message does come up hit any button and wait for the blues screen.after it is loaded hit enter f8.if a screen says existing operating systems hit esc(on that screen there is a option to repair the os but you have to know th command lines to do so).if not and it goes to the partion screen then delete the existing partion and create a new one.to do so go to the partion and (delete)hit d L enter.(create)c enter. after you have formed a new partion hit enter....it will format the drive(delete everything)after it is done formatting it will start to instal the os.in xp it will stop 2 times for your input.after everything is done loading you should be able to custamize everything and install things.in the bottom right hand cornor there should be a marker telling you to activate windows.click it and use the product key on the side of your comp(laptop under it)if there is none there try keyfinder.i will email it to you if you can't find .also be aware that you have to reinstall office, antivirus and other programs. so make sure you have all of the cd's. if you have anymore questions my email is gamecrazy944@yahoo.com back up all of your data(music, documents, videos)before you do this..if you can't boot up then use ubuntu, slax or other types of bootable cds to set it back to the factory setting you are going to have to get a xp installation(asuming it is xp,or what ever disk came with your comp)the disk should say operating system on it.what you do is put the disk in and boot off of it.if this message don't come up 'press any button to boot from cd......' then your going to have to go into the bios and change the cd drive before the harddrive.if the message does come up hit any button and wait for the blues screen.after it is loaded hit enter f8.if a screen says existing operating systems hit esc(on that screen there is a option to repair the os but you have to know th command lines to do so).if not and it goes to the partion screen then delete the existing partion and create a new one.to do so go to the partion and (delete)hit d L enter.(create)c enter. after you have formed a new partion hit enter....it will format the drive(delete everything)after it is done formatting it will start to instal the os.in xp it will stop 2 times for your input.after everything is done loading you should be able to custamize everything and install things.in the bottom right hand cornor there should be a marker telling you to activate windows.click it and use the product key on the side of your comp(laptop under it)if there is none there try keyfinder.i will email it to you if you can't find .also be aware that you have to reinstall office, antivirus and other programs. so make sure you have all of the cd's.

SOURCE: gateway m-6843 won't boot

I am having the same problem. Elix, that is a great suggestion, however this particular model from Gateway does not ship with a recovery CD. There is a recovery partition on the HDD, however with this particular problem the recovery partition is not accessible.

SOURCE: got an acer aspire 5735z laptop, its running but got a black screen

Diagnose:

The diagnosis is;

1) Graphics Chipset
2) Video Cable
3) screen Inverter
4 Backlight
5) LCD screen

If upon diagnosing with an external monitor, you find the display is good on the external monitor, the graphics chipset is good.

Next in line is to check the Video Cable.
Acer = LCD Cable for Video Cable

The connection on the motherboard side is checked first. Then the connection on the LCD screen side.

Seems redundant I know to use this sequence, as to check the LCD Cable connection on the LCD screen side, you have to remove the Display Assembly.
Means you have to disconnect the motherboard side of the cable. (For one)

But at this point you are just diagnosing.

The motherboard connection side of the LCD Cable, is easily accessed after removing the Middle Cover.
The thin strip of plastic above the Keyboard, and below the LCD screen.
(LCD Module actually)

All it takes is a very slight disconnection of the cable. You won't be able to discern it visually. The method is to see if the cable's plug, will plug in tighter.
Both on the motherboard side, and the LCD screen side.

The LCD Cable routes through the left Hinge, and into the LCD Module. (Display Assembly)
It could have been pinched, which would have pulled on it when opening the laptop. Could have pulled one, or both of those connections loose.

Look for obvious signs of damage to the sheath of the cable.
ANY visual damage, may mean damage to the tiny wires inside the cable.
Stretched/Broken wires.

However the wires inside may be damaged, with no outward visual signs apparent.
This would then require removing the LCD Cable, and performing a continuity check with a multimeter set to Ohms, for each wire in the cable.
(If you want to positively ensure that the LCD Cable is not the problem)

(An economical multimeter can be purchased for as little as $8 to $12.
Available in a multitude of stores. An auto parts stores is but one example.
Analog or digital is fine )

Or just replace the cable if visual signs of damage warrant it.

http://www.amazon.com/Video-Flex-Cable-Aspire-5735Z/dp/B006WP5ZF2

The LCD Module has to be removed, to check the LCD screen connection side.
LCD Cable checks out? Move on to the screen Inverter.

Primer:
An LCD screen cannot produce light by itself,

http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Vikuiti1/BrandProducts/secondary/optics101/

It needs an additional light source.
A Backlight is the additional light source.
A Backlight can be a CCFL, or a series of LED lights.

The Acer Aspire 5735Z uses a CCFL.
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

(Average size is 2mm Thick, by near the height of the LCD screen.

That is a little more than 1/16th of an inch Thick, and around 7 inches Long, for the Acer Aspire 5735Z with a 15.6 Inch LCD screen.
Yes sir. Breaks very easily) )

The screen Inverter converts power (Electricity) from the laptop, for the Backlight, and LCD screen.

90 PERCENT OF THE TIME the fault is a bad Inverter.

To test a screen Inverter requires a sensitive multimeter. Read fairly expense,

http://www.fonerbooks.com/test.htm

Due to the above, the ease of replacing, and the cost, most consumers just replace it.
(Unless you have access to someone with a sensitive multimeter. I despise
parts changers, and don't like to guide someone using this method. However...)

http://www.micier.com/acer-aspire-5535-5735-5735z-5730-inverter-board-1921066002-dac08n011_p798.html

LCD Cable is good, Inverter checks out, or is replaced, and problem still exists?
Backlight.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/15-6-LCD-CCFL-Backlight-Lamp-Bulb-for-ACER-Aspire-5732ZG-5734Z-5735-5735Z-/220886560386?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item336ddd6e82

The above is just an example. Not advertising.

http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2007/12/09/replace-laptop-backlight-ccfl-lamp/

The next step is the LCD screen.
Some do not wish to attempt replacing a CCFL backlight, and replace the LCD screen. It has the Backlight already installed.

If you do not see any readily apparent damage to the LCD Cable, and it doesn't have any loose connections, my money is on you have a bad screen Inverter.

The plastic thin frame in front of the LCD screen, and surrounds the LCD screen like a picture frame, is the Display Bezel.
Acer = LCD Bezel.

The screen Inverter board is mounted behind the LCD Bezel, and towards the bottom of the LCD screen.

I keep getting dll error messages and cant figure the problem nothing will download and i cant do a system restart

http://support.gateway.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?tab=1&modelId=3155

This is your manufacturers website for the drivers for your specific model of laptop. dll is a driver typically.

Perhaps you have installed an OS that your hardware cannot support because Gateway isn't supporting that OS. It looks like they are supporting an assortment of windows XP and Windows Vista. So your hardware may not be compatible with another version like windows 7.

You can re-install your drivers from that website for a start, is there a device in device manager that has an exclamation or a question mark beside it ?

hope that helps,

I went to the Wii Shop Channel but it not connected to sever but im connected.

Are you using DHCP or Static IP? If static, make sure you've got the proper Gateway and DNS settings in place. If DHCP, make sure your Wii isn't blocked by the router.

Gateway MD2614u, froze at start up when restart was attempted nothing appeared but a black screen. It will not restart. I have tried the battery/power reset, vacuum any dust and hooked up to another...

Actually this is a hard drive fault most likely, or a faulty had drive. If you don't have a recovery disk you are going to have to start the machine and try to do a recovery to boot repair. You can usually access this with F10 or F12, not really sure on a gateway.

I own a Gateway mx3416 Notebook. I have a booting problem. To start it, I need to start it and close it immediately, then start it again for it to boot. It also gets really hot. But the fan is working....

check your start up menu and see how many programs you have running on start up . sounds like you have too many start up programs going all at once it may be a matter of setting some programs to not start on start up .

Gateway laptop will not let me past log in screen

You could try booting in safe mode and roll back to before you had the problems by using system restore.

Worth a try and a lot quicker than a full re-install.

May not work but it will only take minutes to find out !!!

Good luck and let me know how you get on.

Gateway laptop was connecting to internet wirelessly, not now

Check that if there is Static ip configured on your Lan-Card...

if yes.. then you need to configure the IP addresses manually for W-LAN as well.

One more thing; if Lan-card is not configured with static IP then

make sure your W-lan IP seting is on "obtain Ip automatically"

Here is the way to do this....

Click on the start orb to open a list of programs and content. The start menu has been replaced by the “start orb” which still gives you the same functionality as the start button from previous OS versions, but consumes less screen real estate.
Right click on “Network” and go to properties. That opens the “Network and Sharing Center” which is your central office for anything pertaining to (just as it says) networking or sharing resources.
On the left hand column you want to click on “Manage Network Connections.”

This opens the Network Connections Window which you will find familiar to Windows 2000/XP. It will list all of your NICs or Wireless Connections.
Right click and go to properties of the connection you would like to statically assign. You will now be prompted for an administrative password. This is part of Microsoft’s new User Account Control (UAC) which will help unauthorized changes to your systems.
Once you have authenticated you will see the properties of the selected network connection.

The properties screen is very similar to what you’ve seen in the past, but one thing you will likely notice is by default Windows Vista supports IPv6. If you’re on a corporate or government network that is running IPv6 you can fill in your IP information there.
Otherwise, you will select Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4) and click properties. Now you will be able to Choose the option "Obtain Ip adress automaticlay"

Close the Network Connections Window

Let me know if this helps.. Good luck...

regards,
