Got the same problem with HP 7310 after replacing black cartridge. Sure enough as someone mentioned broken off piece of plastic from print stall. Looks like it got between cartridge and stall circuit film contacts and punctured the contact film circuit. Contacts look ok but a couple circuit traces to the far right look severed. Further inspection I found the broken off piece and location it came from. Looks like plastic tang/tab which retained the spring wire located in the stalls. Weak weak design if simply inserting a cartridge can cause this failure. Lets see a little epoxy will fix the plastic tang but how the heck am I gonna bridge them circuit traces on the film circuit. I'll let y'all know if I even bother trying.

I replaced the black ink cartridge and it keep saying I have to check it that is not properly set. Looking in detail at the place for the cartridge I see that a serpentine wire is kind of loose and it seems like a small piece of plastic came off. Again I can not use it. This is a shame a very bad design for something that needs to be changed very often.

Where do I take it to be fixed?????????????

This has nothing to do with the cartridge you used. Its a pure and simple design fault from HP that has exsisted since the 7210, 7310 and now the 7410. I am working with the European consumer commission and the UFC in France to get a resolution for European customers. US customers can get a replacement it seems by mentioning this thread ...

If anyone else is living in Europe please contact me. Its not fair that US customers have there printer replaced and Europeans must pay to "upgrade" there printer.

I just spent over 1 hour with online support. My printer hp 7410 message says replace black ink cartridge. The message appeared when I replaced the black ink cartridge with a new one. The printer is useless while the error message is present. Support diagnosed it to be hardware problem and need to replace printer. Problem was this happened 14 days after 1yr warranty expired! The diagnostics report said that there was an open/short on Right cartridge. After closer inspection I noticed that the black ink cartridge punctured the plastic contact tape on the back! THIS IS CLEARLY A BAD DESIGN . Be very gentle when replacing the black ink cartridge. Solution is replace the broken part.

Look at the carriage holder for the cartridge. Do you see a little piece of plastic that broke off? If so, that is the problem. I had it on a very similar 7310 and wound up taking it back after having it only two months.

Sounds like a bad cartridge, you may want to try an original, it may be worth the cost instead of a new printer. First clean contacts on printer w/alcohool and put the cartridge back in. Not fixed try a new one may be worth the $40

The HP 99 cartridge is used if you would like to print photos. The HP 99 replaces the HP 96 (black) cartridge in your printer. The HP 99 cartridge has black, photo magenta, and photo cyan inks in it. When you pair this with the cyan, magenta, and yellow in your HP 97 (color) cartridge you have the full set of photo colors represented.

My HP Officejet 7410 xi is showing an error message that states "Remove and check color cartridge". I have tried replacing the old cartridge with two separate new ones and I still get the error message.

Apparently, there is a known problem with this printer series (7310 / 7410). When you replace the cartridge, there is a metal wire that keeps the cartridge in place. This wire comes away from the wall as you slide the cartridge in and makes a hole in the ribbon cable.

Unfortunately, there is not much that you can do, other than to contact HP. Hopefully, your printer is still under warranty.

How to replace a print cartridge carriage in HP 7410xi

There are limit switches all over the place in this machine & they need to give the correct permissives. So make surre the top of the cartridge access door (essentially the upper portion of the unit) is completely open & the cartridge positioner has moved to the location (slightly to the left of its parking position) where the cartidges can be most easily accessed & where the machine will allow (if you anthropomorphise: expect) the carteidge lever-lock to be lifted. If the carteidge is diffivult to get to or if the lever is difficult to lift then it's in the wrong position & applying excess force will cause damage.

You can also use the built-in HP printer status monitor. You can view it on your computer monitor. It tells you ink levels & a number of other printer stats. It also has links to the HP help page.

Hp Office jet print cartridge error

Remove the cartridge and look at the cartridge holder. There should be a spring sticking out from the right side of the holder. The spring on these often breaks loose and will not allow the cartridge to seat properly. (Look at the left holder and compare it to the right one. They should look alike.) If the spring is loose, meaning the holder is broken, the holder needs to be replaced. I've tried gluing the spring in place but did not have good luck with this.
