Re: PD170 Drum Run

Answering time on the internet varies from 500 - 1000 hours. According to this website the golden rule is 1000 hours.

I recently rang Sony uk who told me the time was 1400 hours because these cameras are "a real workhorse."

Personally, I'd say it came down to how the camera was kept, treated and used over its lifespan. Was it used in humid conditions? Or perhaps in the derset?

The better its owner, the better the camera most likely.

showing error c:31 mean your camera have defective mechanic, which one contain error? well, to make sure your problem try to inserting cassette and see the mechanical work:
1. when tape is insert it, before reel try to raising the tape, head will spin first.
2. after head is spinning then the tape will load

if your problem is in no 1 the head drum doesnt spinning, try to check the flex cable the top section of the head.
if head drum is spinning its mean your capstan is broken, try to change with a new one

No Power to PD170

most likely a hardware or a loose connection problem. Unless your willing to buy a service manual from somewhere and haveing a look inside - possibly replaceing parts. I'd reacommend you contact your dealer for details on a repair man.

Tape threads but when record button is pushed, it says it is recording in lcd, but time code does not move and I don't hear it engaging. And it will not work in VCR mode. Just get a blue screen.

This is most likely caused by a damaged or misaligned video drum and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it’s not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I’m a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I’m semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

If this response has been of any help to you, please be sure and give a positive vote for me on .

Time code breaks

have the PD170 professionally cleaned; a worn pinch roller causes time code inaccuracies like the ones you are describing.
