A complete replacement carburetor will just buy you another set of parts identical to the ones you already have. Nothing is worn out.

You should be able to clean the carburetor inside with SPRAY carburetor & fuel injector cleaner, after opening it up. Spray the cleaner through the jet and every passage you can find. Be careful about your eyes - some passages lead back toward your face, and carburetor cleaner is NO good for your eyes!

When it's clean, examine it to be absolutely sure everything's assembled correctly, especially the float valve ("needle and seat"). Put it back together and reinstall it on the engine.

Put a little FRESH gasoline (NEVER use old gasoline in an engine!) in the tank.

Now take off the fuel line (from the carburetor) and make sure fuel drains from it freely. Put it back on immediately and loosen the bowl. Fuel should also drain from the bowl freely.

Last, doublecheck your idle mix adjustment screw. If you toyed with it, you have to get it adjusted correctly again - a good starting point is SNUG (never TIGHT), then back it out counterclockwise about 1-1/2 turns. Once you get the engine started and running without the choke, it (the screw) should be adjusted until it's very slightly rich (counterclockwise) from the point where idle speed drops if you turn it clockwise any further. Said another way... get it idling without the choke, then turn that screw in (clockwise) 1/4-turn at a time until you can hear the idle speed drop. At that point, back it out (counterclockwise) about 1/4 turn.

If you CAN'T get it to idle without the choke, then just try backing out (counterclockwise) that screw 1/4-turn at a time. Each 1/4-turn should make it run just a little richer, necessitating less choke.

drain the fuel out, get rid of all the fuel additives. take the carburetor off and take apart and clean with spray carburetor cleaner. clean the bolt that goes in to the bottom real good. clean the holes in it good. put it back together and it will be good. it sounds like it has debris in there some where that needs cleaned out.

'07 klr 650 won't run without choke on

Hi, Lance and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel cap or fuel tank is not venting properly.
2. Fuel filter clogged.
3. Fuel line pinched or kinked.
4. Vacuum line from the petcock to intake manifold cracked.
5. Float needle and seat sticking.
6. Float level too low.
7. Carburetor bowl vent line clogged/blocked/pinched.
8. Idle adjusting screw set too low.
9. Air/fuel mixture screw set too lean.
10. Idle port, transfer ports, slow air jet clogged.
11. Slow fuel jet clogged.
12. Faulty fuel pump.

1987 vw cabriolet idles up and down. When you accelerate it bogs. If you come off gas pedal a little rpms pick up. Has new distributor, coil, fuel pump, plugs and wires. Also cold start vavle replaced....

At that point, I think the best thing to do would be having the carburetor taken off, take it apart, put it in some gunk remover (Carburetor Cleaner sold in 1 gallon barrels), then wirebrush it all out, make sure all the jets are clean, buy a carburetor repair kit, and put it all back together with new seals. At how old your car is, it would probably be best for it. On the cheap side, all that needs to be done is having the carburetor's throttle accelerator pump fixed (Squirter). A shop should be able to do all this, but it's not hard, either.

Engine idles, but when push throudle dies. Will not run fast.

It most likely needs a new air filter, if the filter is foam you can just clean it in gasoline.

If that doesn't fix it then you will need to remove and clean the carburetor. Its a pretty easy job. The carburetor sits in between the air filter box and the engine. Just pull of the couple bolts holding it all together and disconnect the throttle springs, remember or mark which one is which. Disconnect the fuel line ad it should come right off.

Get some carburetor cleaner from your local parts store and give the whole thing a good cleaning (take it apart as much as you can and clean every part). Then put it all back together and it should run like its new.

My 1993 kx 250 runs great but it will not idle ??

ALWAYS have a fire extinguisher on hand when working on carburetors.

Drain the carburetor. There should be a screw on the lower side or bottom of the carb float bowl. Remove the screw then replace it after the fuel drains. Install a new stock NGK spark plug. Remove the carburetor from the engine.

Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the idle screw and the air screw on the outside throat of the
carb and spray into the screw holes as well.

Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two adjusters down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each adjuster one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the
carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine.

Running problems

The idle circuit is plugged up. ALWAYS have a fire extinguisher on hand when working on carburetors.
Remove the water trap bowl at the bottom of the petcock, (gas valve). Is there any water or trash in the bowl? Drain a cup of gas from the tank. Is there any water or trash in the cup? Dump it, clean it and re-mount it, ( not all bikes have a water trap bowl ).

Drain the carburetor and remove the carburetor from the engine. Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the idle screw and the air screw on the outside throat of the carb and spray into the screw holes as well. Pay special attention to the pilot jet area.
