SOURCE: Just want the Orion TV (Model: STV 2763) to play VHS videos

Problem Solved:

Take your connector with the 3 colors red, white & yellow and plug into VCR OUT. The other end (w/ 3 plugs) goes into the INPUT on the back of the TV. Next insert a VHS Tape & search the TV for input or a channel below #2 for Cable#1,2,3 or AUV Channel.

In this case; Channel AUX #1
Shows / Plays Video w/ clear sound & picture.

Jvc gr-ax35 only plays black and white on 3 different sources i.e. tv, dvd recorder player and usb capture. could this be tape detrition or dirty video head

i would take it and get it serviced
i think the tape isnt running at quite the right speed perhaps a dirty bearing
usually if you get black and white from a colour video
then its either recorded in black and white or playing back black and white

so if you record then test it using a a vcr and a converter vhs tape box then you can see if its recording in black and white

then youll know its something too do with either the colour carrier etc component of the video its outputing

dont think its a dirty head
but you can clean it easy enough
i use a plain manila envilope and use the inside of its paper
the outside is smooth the inside is rough
its just right to clean the head drum
and some small lint free cloth to carefully clean the mecha
i use IPA isopropile alchohol {get from the chemist}

When I record a movie on the vcr it plays back snowy.

Ur VCR signal recorded free air throught an DTV converter box?Yes,this cause is normal, because VCR player have no digital tuner on the VCR player by itself,on it circuitries design. If recorded throught pay cable signal.Yes,than ur VCR video head player is dirty needed to be clean.Tries websites like Amazon.com,Ebay.com to buy a VCR video head cleaner vdeo tape.Just play it as normal as a video tape, when the video head clean,VCR will display clean head eject tape now.

Older TV works great alone including sound. Cable TV but no box. VCR connected with cables (red, white and yellow)to TV and has worked fine. Playing home recorded VCR tape picture OK but sound is low and...

Very likely the VCR audio head is dirty which will give you muffled or low sound on play. Remove the the top cover & using a piece of non-abrasive cleaning cloth & a head cleaning fluid gently rub the audio head to clean it. The audio stack sits to the right hand side of the deck, it is usually a siler block which will be placed in front of a black roller. The head is on the side of the stack facing toward you, give this area a wipe, try a fresh recording & then replay the new recording to see if the sound has improved.

VCR recording in black and white

The recording head, which is to the right of the reading wheel needs cleaning. it's pointless doing it your self you may destroy your machine, pay a proffesional a couple off dollars to remove the 4 screws and clean the head properly.

The tape only plays back in black and white.

normally this would be a tracking error, if you can manually adjust the tracking, this should fix the prob...if there is no way to manually adj the tracking, use a video head cleaner to see if cleaning the heads will help the auto track to function better.

VCR picture won't work

I have found that just cleaning the head with the tape cleaner (the wet one works best) I have to clean it at least 4 or 5 times in a row sometimes before the picture will come back on. I bet that'll work for you.

Distortion

Its because the head is worn out and you need a replacement of it. Clean the audio head and sound will be fine. Usually a good clean of both the heads will resolve the issue.
