Yes, you will need an external antenna to pull in the digital signals. It will not work with the built-in antenna on the GE. Alternately, you can use an external antenna (ie, rabbit ears), connect them to the converter box, then connect the converter box to the antenna jack on the back of the TV (I think it has one). Granted, not an elegant solution for a kitchen TV, but it beats not using it anymore.

Cheers

I have a nexxtech am/fm/radio reciever model 1219178.I cant get any radio stations am or fm.was working fine in living room. now by window in basement.what can I do to get stations again?

Radios receive their signals from the airwaves. Since most homes are frame construction and have quite a few windows, radio signals tend to do well in first floor and higher settings. In high-rises, condos, and basements, where masonry construction is prevalent, signals are weaker or non-existent. If the radio has the ability to attach an antenna, you could use a dipole and fasten it up near or to the window to attempt to get better signal. This will or should help with the FM, but AM in that location is almost impossible. If the dipole doesn't work, there are outdoor antennas and there are some amplifier antennas that are available, but this increases cost.

Is it possible to put a longer antenna on

yes, but no. The radio is designed for low power and a short antenna to limit range. This was to reduce interference with Licensed FCC radios. Since I will provide a few ideas, these are to experiment with radio waves, NEVER to break the law. So.....ideas to increase antenna: most simple, tape coax to the antenna lead. It will pick up a small amount of the radiated signal and sent it to the longer antenna. Strip the rubber and even the mesh, the center copper sends the signal. Best if under 10 feet. Other than this, you either cut open the rubber antenna or best of all, open the radio and soldier to the antenna connection on the main board. Remember: low power radios cannot send a signal far. Use good quality coax, RG58, never cable TV coax. Short length has a better opportunity of working. 30' you will lost all the signal in the coax. Other ideas? Yep, lots. email us. :)

What is the video single output VHF FM UHF 12db

That sounds like the description of a broadband amplifier. It likely has "F" type (cable-coax) connectors and a power cord.
Commonly used to increase the signal level of TV cable to compensate for inserting a signal splitter, or in some cases to increase the signal level from an antenna, typically outdoor TV or FM radio antenna, so it is connected between the signal source (antenna, or cable) and receiver with antenna as input and receiver connected to the output of this little box. The gain (amplification) it provides is 12 dB, so the output is more than 3 times the input.

Receives very well- other radios can barely hear me-I have a short mag base antenna

The rule is the taller the antenna the better the reception and power output. Of course it is not always convenient to mount a 102" whip.
  • 4 watts into a 102-inch whip antenna, it is the same output as if you put 11 watts into a 3-foot whip.
  • 4 watts into a 102-inch whip antenna,, it is the same as if you put 14 watts into a 28-inch antenna.
  • 4 watts into a 102-inch whip antenna, it is the same as if you put 54 watts into a 7.5-inch antenna.

You did not mention the signal on their meter and how close they are. This may be a modulation issue. Wattage increases can go unnoticed volume wise but small modulation increase can make dramatic changes in volume to the receiving radio. Check that your dynamike or mike gain control is turned up clockwies increases it. The radio itself may need the modulation increased internally. If you have a powermike with adjustments on back it may be way to low. Hope this was of some help

How to add external antenna to a GE 75300 GE Slim Spacemaker

the antenna is internal (I couldnt find an external adapter) - u need to open the top (20 or so screws). Theres a "pipe" thru the back that leads pretty straight into the antennae. Hook ur metal to the closest bundle and out the pipe.

My reception still isn't perfect, but you can listen to it. I moved the ac power code to the far side and gain some improvement as well.

GE spacesaver 05GP009

Hello,
I had this same problem, I wanted to use this tv with a converter box and the only way to do this was to hook up the converter box with an external antenna to the small 3.5mm input on the back. If you go to radio Shack and get an "F to 1/8" Adapter"the radio shack part number is "278-257". It worked perfectly. I'm able to get many clear channels, and with the converter box I now have remote control. It works well. Good luck, I hope this helps
