SOURCE: The wheels on my Polaris

There are a couple things that you should check with these pool cleaners if the wheels are functioning properly. Check the filter screen in the in-line filter assembly and clean if necessary.Make sure that you do not have any debris or obstructions that could be halting wheel function. Even though you seem to have plenty of water, check the RPM and make sure they are between 28 and 32.

Check your wheel RPM. If the pool cleaners RPM is over 32, reduce the water flow so that the cleaner makes proper contact with the pool's surface. Verify the back-up valve is cycling. Lift the valve out of
the water and watch the jet. It should come on and go off. You might also need to adjust your thrust jet if it is causing the cleaner to lean too far to one side.

SOURCE: I purchased a Polaris 3900 on 6/2/2010 and have

First, make sure that the velcro closure on your pool cleaners bag is sealed tightly. If the velcro is coming lose, it could be the problem. Next, make sure that your wheels are operating at the proper RPM. Too little RPM could cause the pool cleaner to be sluggish and not create the proper tension to keep the bag floating. It should be between 30 and 36. If it is running at less than 30 RPM, there are few things that you can do to fix it. If an adjustable valve is installed on the cleaner line, open it completely so water can flow freely to the cleaner. Check the filter screen in the in-line filter
for debris that restricts water flow and clean if necessary. Also clean the skimmer, filter, and pump baskets. Check the hoses, connections and swivels for leaks that cause loss of water pressure. Finally, if none of these solutions work, remove the blue restrictor disk from the UFW.

SOURCE: My Polaris 3900 Sport Pool

I had a similar issue. When I lifted the unit out of the water while it was operating only the single wheel was rotating. I turned it off and removed the bag and hose. I flipped it over on a workbench and unscrewed the three recessing screws securing the base plate. Once the plate was removed I noticed the metal chain driving the two wheels had come off on the far side of the inner sprocket. I worked the chain back onto the sprocket and tested it by rotating the single wheel and verifying the other two wheels rotated. After reassembly I put the unit back in the pool and it drove straight and high on the sides. Hope this helps someone :-)

1. Check the wheel RPM. If not in the 30-36 RPM range, refer to the manual for adjusting the wheel RPM.

2. Adjust the thrust jet downward.

3. Verify the backup valve is cycling. Lift the valve out of the water and watch the jet. It should come on and go off.

4. Check for water inside the head float.

5. Empty the filter bag.

You can download the 3900 Manual from the Polaris site

The wheels on my Polaris 3900 don't move. Plenty of water coming thru the thrust and the tail wags. When I move the wheels manually they all move together.
