SOURCE: I lost my decimal point

You need to be in add mode, and have 2 decimal places selected for the result.
To change to add mode, make sure the 'K . A' switch is in the 'A' position. To get 2 decimal places in the answer, move the selector in the 'F 6 3 2 1 0' switch to the '2' position.

You can see the above described at

this Sharp.com page which shows the users manual. The manual shows examples.

SOURCE: I want two decimal points to show

I called Canon customer support. There is a tiny reset button on the lower back area of the calculator. Simply stick a small object in there to reset the calculator and you should be as good as new! Worked for me!

How do I round a decimal when you have a lot of numbers after the decimal point?

You first have to decide what accuracy, that is how many decimals, are needed in the answer. There is a rule of thumb which says you should not quote more decimals than the accuracy of the data used in the calculation. Money calcs of course would usually use just 2 decimals.

So when dropping decimals round up the last remaining of the dropped decimal is 5 or over, otherwise it is unaltered. So 2.2361 rounded off to 3 dec is 2.236, and rounded to 2 dec it is 2.24.

How do I round 439.96479 to the nearest cent

take the figure immediately after the decimal point (disregard the rest) and see if it is less or greater than 5. If it is 5 or greater then round up to the next figure before the decimal point
if it is less then round down to the whole figure before the decimal point
example if the figure is 439.5 or 6 or 7 or 8 or 9( disregard the rest of the figures) it is rounded up to 440.0
it is 439.4 or 3 or 2 or 1 then it is 439.0

How do I stop calculator from rounding up?

Hi Carol,

There are switches at the top just under the screen called the "Rounding Switch" and the "Decimal Point Selector Switch".

With the rounding switch you can select rounding up or down, but you may also want to use the second switch to show more digits after the decimal. Put it in the "F" position to show all decimal places. When it is in the 0, 1, 2 positions, it strips off and round the numbers.

Here is the link to the manual as well, look at the section detailing the "Decimal Point Selector Switch".

(You will need an Adobe Acrobat Reader to look at the manual.)

Hope this will help you. http://downloads.canon.com/cpr/software/calculator/P23-DHV-(USA-HWB).pdf

^Top What is the [F CUT 5/4] switch or [DEC] F, 0, 2 button for?
The HR-8TE/HR-8TM have a [DEC] key with F, 0, 2, and 5/4 over it, while many other calculators models have a switch labeled [F CUT 5/4].
The button or switch can control rounding off to a certain number of decimal places. F is floating point (no F indicator on screen), 0 rounds off to 0 places after decimal point, and 2 rounds off to 2 places after decimal point.
The 5/4 applies to either the 0 or 2 modes, and describes the type of rounding off that is performed. The calculator will round down if the digit after the one you are rounding to is 4 or lower, and round up if the digit is 5 or higher.
^Top What is the [5,4,3,2,1,0 ADD (2)] switch used for?
This switch is used to determine how many decimal places your answer is displayed in.
ADD (2) is often used for monetary calculations, so that it is not necessary to enter the decimal point. It is automatically placed two decimal places from the end for cents. For example, entering 123 will display as 1.23.

How to round the fig. in Excel 2007 E.g. 12350*32.75% = 4044.625 I want it to be rounded to nearer rupee. If the decimal is lesser than 50, rounded fig. should be lower Rupee if the decimal is more than 50...

The function is called ROUND. It has 2 arguments, (1) the original number and (2) the number of decimal digits. Here is the Excel's help: ROUND(number,num_digits) The number you want to round. None. num_digits The number of digits to which you want to round number. If num_digits is greater than 0 (zero), then number is rounded to the specified number of decimal places. If num_digits is 0, then number is rounded to the nearest integer. If num_digits is less than 0, then number is rounded to the left of the decimal point.
So for your case use this in a cell "=ROUND(12350*32.75%, 0)" without quotes, where I assume one or both numbers will come from other cells. -Ken

SETTING UP THE DECIMAL ON NEW 210 TM

Set the +43210F switch to + (or 2).
On some models it is A43210F, then use A (or 2).
+ mode will let you enter numbers (monetary) without the decimal point and assumes cents; 2 mode will just round to 2 decimals, but you must enter the decimal.
