SOURCE: p990i touch screen problem
I encountered the same problem but was able to fix it. Just don't know if it's just temporary. Go to tools, control panel, other, set up wizard, tap yes, tap the second button before cancel, keep on clicking to the right direction until the numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 appears. Tap the center of each number until blinking stops, save settings. For the first few steps you may use the jog dial found on the left side of the phone if the touch screen does not follow your tappings.

put a blank file called welcome.not (make using notepad) onto the removable storage card this will bypass the startup screen and mean it does not jam into this look on startup
down load a file phm registry edit... (search on internet) put the cab onto the phone... in stall.. and run
set the sensitivity on this to 20, you can then calibrate the screen... you can try stepping it to 18 16 14 and 10..
this will cure the problem

Calibrate the g1 touch screen on the device by going to Start>Settings>System Tab>/Screen then Click Align Screen
If you cannot get to the Screen Alignment utility using the menu’s, it can also be accessed by pressing the Volume Up and Center Navigation Buttons at the same time.
hope this helps, pls appreciate by rating as fixyaa
