Question about Computers & Internet

My Gateway NV44 has become COMPLETELY in-opperable.

I have a terrible installation error with my Gateway NV44 laptop. I had recently installed Windows 8.1 on my laptop and it was fine besides the fact that I had to get my drivers back. So eventually one week later I went on Gateway's site and started getting my drivers back. It was going well until I got to the first wireless driver update, which would be: "Wireless LAN Driver (HB93)" and after I installed that driver it demanded a reboot which I proceeded to do. My laptop starts up and I get the blue crash screen. Computer restarts and loads up again, crashes again. Restarts again, crashes again. It got to a point where as soon as that screen popped up it IMMEDIATLEY restarts, like a boot-loop almost. At this point I got fet up. I asked my friend to burn his windows 8 from his disk onto a USB key so I could re-install it on my computer. Knowing Windows 8.1 is glitchy I decided lets just stick with Windows 8. But my computer just got worse. I proceeded to the installation and selected custom so I could format my laptop and start from scratch. I format it and select it, error message appears beside the "NEXT" button stating something like, "Can't create or locate partition..." which I didn't know what it meant. I looked up videos on the internet to fix this problem and the most useful procedure people have found was the command prompt and directly making a partition from there. I followed that, STILL didn't work. I removed all devices except the installation USB, STILL didn't work. I have called Microsoft to help me with this and the only support they could give me was to contact Gateway but I don't have product warranty on my laptop anymore, seeing how it was given to me by my Uncle. And personally I don't want to pay for a warranty to fix my computer that broke from drivers Gateway provided on their site.

Couple things - I don't think that this is an issue with drivers. If your machine can't create or locate any partition it sounds like the hard drive is physically damaged. (Basically it is not even detecting that there is a drive attached at all.) They only have a life span of a few years (3-5 depending on use. This can be greatly shortened if your machine has ever been dropped, bumped, knocked off a table etc.) There is NO WAY a driver update could have caused physical damage to your machine, most likely this is just a bad timing coincidence that a piece of hardware failed at the same time as you were trying to do an update.

Without knowing more information I cannot be certain that this is the issue. If you would like further troubleshooting just let me know I am happy to try and help!

SOURCE: Notebook will not boot

If I understand what your problem is...
I had the same problem, it was a caused by bad Windows XP install CD.
Call Gateway and explain the situation, you may need to have a magnifying glass handy to read the tiny engraved lettering in the center of the CD disk.
Have your 'Product Key' available.
If you have some kind of sales receipt, or other "Proof of Purchase" have it handy too.
You will need to tell them, you do not have the program installed on other computers.
They can send you another disk.
This method will only work if you have a legal copy of the program.

SOURCE: My Hp Pavilion dv5000 crashed! XP cd displays error message!

If you are facing this issue while installing Windows, Most probably there is an issue with the memory card. If you have two memory modules try to use one of the memory modules in each slot at a time. If you have only one memory stick then try to use it one by one on each slot. If you it does not work then probably you might have to replace the memory stick.

Hope you find this information helpful.

Thank you for choosing Fixya

My Gateway NV44 has become COMPLETELY in-opperable from a driver update

Could you possibly take your laptop to a local repair shop to get it untangled?

I have a gateway nv44 and it will on power on if the screen is in the right position. I have to hold down the power button and move the screen up and down until it come on. Then it works fine.

It sounds like you have worn, loose or cut wires at or near your laptops hinges. You need to contact gateway if it is under warranty or the purchase place if you have an extended warranty through them. If it's out of warranty you will have to find a technician that repairs gateway laptops or pay for gateway to fix it.

NV44 screen goes blank F1 gets us to a screen with lots of info. Part of which is "Media test failure" and "operating system not found" What to do?

Your problem is either that a cable attached to your hard drive has become loose or that it was somehow formatted (erased). Pretty much the only things you can do are make sure the hard drive is plugged in, or reinstall Windows.

Error code 0oxooooc1f5 for gateway laptop

Sounds like a Windows update has caused this, you could try and get to windows updates by entering control panel / add / remove program and ensure the box at top is ticked to show all windows updates. Try "removing" the last update / reboot and see if that fixes it, if not repeat for the next, last updtae etc.

Failing that you can reload Vista in a way that will save your files but will NOT run programs until you actually put them back in such as Microsoft Office, Skype etc. Avoid a format as this will remove all data off the disk.
